Question about 2000 Toyota Corolla
Hi, i have a 1999 toyota corolla vvt-i ( manual transmission) and have noticed this nasty metallic rattle in the engine when accelerating, espercially when climbing a slope. occures mostly in 3rd and 4th gear. the mechanics say the timing is a bit too high and that i should not really let it worry me, but this car is not supposed to have any specific timing.
Ok you could try the cat converter on the exaust when the car is cold bang it with your hand its the first box on the exaust at the front nearest to the engine you will hear it rattle

If its when there's strain on your powertrain and not when you hit a certain RPM, have a mechanic check the crankshaft bearings. Usually sounds like a chain being pulled through your engine.
