My Ford f-150 started this morning but engine shut off with the check gauge indicator light on. Oil pressure is low, oil leaked onto driveway. Engine cranks but will not start. No smoke or burning sme

Tony,
don't run it with low oil pressure - you will damage the engine. WHere did the oil leak out? Is it staying in now? Not sure what you mean by "check gauge" - maybe check engine? If you can pull the codes from the ECU that may help. WHere is the oil level on the dip stick? reply via comment to the orignial question.

Oil light never came on, I decide to put 4 quarts due to it being 10 months since change, since doing so low oil light has come on

4 quarts means that youve got one serious leak and your slicking up the roads for every body... you should get out some tools and see what you can snug up to slow the leak, as for the light, your driving a cheap vehicle so what do you expect ?

I have a 97 Chevy Lumina. It has 276,*** miles on it. I bought it used 4 months ago. It was running excellent then the service engine soon light, low coolant light, and change oil soon light started coming...

The fact that the oil was low would not be from the oil pump, but from wear in the engine. If it is not smoking when you start it or as you drive, you can probably keep it running by just keeping the oil level checked at each fuel fill-up. As for the car shutting off, you didn't say if the engine seized or got real hot. A low oil pressure problem should have triggered a warning light before the problem got to the point where you lost the engine.

If the car ran after you added the oil, you got lucky and need to always check it.

1992 isuzu trooper ls I had the oil change at 110313 miles i drove the car 1513 miles and the check engine light came on the next time i started the car. I checked the oil and it was 1.5 quarts low so...

the pcv valve could cause some oil loss. as for the engine light there may be a special way to turn it off. check your owners manual for specifics.

I have 99 grand prix, the motor is ticking and there's a symbol on the left hand side of the gauge that looks like fliter what does that means

if it is this

Than it either means you are out of oil, have no oil pressure, or the oil sending unit is bad.

Since you hear an unusual noise from the engine I would bet that it is either out of oil or there is not enough oil pressure to lubricate the engine. Either way it should not be driven until the oil level is checked. If low add oil until the dipstick reads full. If you have added four quarts than the oil pan was empty and the lack of oil was causing the light to come on. Start the vehicle. Is the light out and the noise gone?

Take a peak under the car to see if you can see oil dripping. If it is do not drive until until the source of the leak has been found and repaired.

2007 rabbit - oil light

If it was still running okay & no noise, probably no engine damage. Adding 2 quarts should have turned off the light if the problem was oil pressure. Sounds like the oil pressure sending unit may be bad.

Burning oil, but dont know why

Nowdays 1 Qt. in 3000 miles, really isn't that bad, even some new vehicles claim that's normal. I know with my current vehicles, both at approx. 150,000-160,000 miles, they won't use any for first while after an oil change, but then after mileage starts adding up again, they start to use a little, approx.I Qt, every 1000 miles or so, until it's changed again. I've switched to the high mileage oil, just for piece of mind, as they say it revives seals, and has added protection for the higher mileage engines. This time around I'm thinking of adding "Lucas" & see how it works, as I've heard some pretty good reports on it, just to see if it will prolong that oil breakdown, at mid change.
