Question about 2002 Nissan Xterra

2002 Nissan Xterra Supercharged

I was wondering if you knew what was the problem or what could cause my 02 Xterra from running rough like when you would sometimes sit at a light waiting for it to change? I bought it with 40,000 miles on it and run high premium gas as it recommends. I tried cleaning out the injectors with a $15 bottle of additive for the fuel that was recommended. It also takes a while to start. I was thinking the plugs next or the pcv valve. What do you guys think? The air filter is also clean and it has about 70,000 miles on it now

thanks for your time and consideration in this matter.

Changing the plugs is a good idea. The pcv, pop it out and give it a shake, if it 'rattles' put it back in. Now with starting fluid, check for a vaccum leak around the intake. Do this with the engine at idle speed, it will pick up when you hit the spot. Install the gasket or replace the hose that fell off, Way ya go! Frankster016

I changed the valve covers on an 02 nissan xterra, and realized that I had to remove the distributor in order to get the driver side off. I put the distributor back on without checking my mark, and now it...

Trial and error won't reset the basic timing, merely cause more frustration and delay and could damage the oxygen sensor and CAT in addition.

An engine with too much unburned fuel inside is likely to give up all efforts at starting and once you have set the timing you might need to do considerable cranking with the throttle wide open and the fuel pump disconnected before it does start.

An experienced mechanic could probably figure out the timing close enough to run reasonably but for accuracy the repair manual will provide the proper procedure.

Knock out sensor

unless your xterra is supercharged, you really do not need to replace it. its a lot of work, because its located way down under the upper plenum and lower intake. its way down there. if it is supercharged, you do need to replace it, because it puts the supercharger into fail safe mode and truck till not run to its full potencial.

Would a bad fuel filter cause the engine light to come on and also make my car run rough

A bad fuel filter can make the engine run rough, but by itself it won't make the check engine light to come on. It may have caused other symptoms and that's what is making the light come on.

Why are brakes soft on 02 nissan xterra? No air

You brake master cylinder is either low or faulty. Check your fluid level, if that is good you need to have this repaired as soon as possible as it could lead to brake failure.

Terrible gas milage not stuck in 4x4 3.3 supercharged

Defective 02 sensors will enrich the fuel and cause the waste. Supercharged the sensors are probably reading lean exhaust and screaming for mor fuel when it isn't needed. Good Luck, Ned-
