The idle slows down at stops signs and traffic lights. I have to reve the engine to keep it from stalling. On the highway, when I shift from 4th to 5th, the car loses speed and takes a while to get back up to speed.

I have same thing - idle speed drops and it often cuts out. Sometimes it wont start for a minute after. If you leave the interior fan running and or the A/C on it fixes it - the extra load increases the idle speed. I reckon it's a fault in the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) - but they are expensive!

Dos not seem to pick up speed, the car does not respond as it did before, the accelerator is slow to respond.

Sounds like you have more power in the upper RPM's. Alot of cars feel the power band with-in 4K-5K RPM.

Is the transmission slipping? You can easily tell this by seeing if the engine revs but the car doesn't accelerate well.

Mazda 323 fuel injection1994 accelerator problem

Try changing the fuel filter. If it clogs up the engine won't get the fuel it needs to run at wide throttle openings, the engine will ****** the timing, and you'll lose power. With less throttle the filter can flow well enough for the engine to run properly.
