To a lesser extent, I get a noise when going forward (and wheel still all bthe way to the left). Any ideas? Thanks for your help. Frank.

Sounds like you have a faulty CV joint. if that is the source of the noise i would not mess around and get it replaced. if that breaks you are not going anywhere.

My 2993 Honda Pilot will crank and partially catch and back fire in the engine area. What could the problem be? jjannelli1@comcast.net

You've done 200k miles in a Pilot since 2003!! Do you ever sleep? What ever the maint done it failed to spot any defects. My guess there is a very weak mixture from a big air leak from hose/gasket/manifold etc.

My 2003 honda pilot is difficult to shift into drive

There could be a number of issues with a Honda Pilot not shifting into drive. In fact, I had this problem with my 2003 Honda Pilot two weeks ago and had to replace my transmission. More than 100,000 2003 Honda Pilots were recalled in 2004 because of a transmission problem -- was your Honda part of that recall? If so, Honda may help you with some of the costs.

If the problem is not with the transmission, I suggest making sure that your steering column is not locked. You will also notice that on the top of the steering column is a small plate. If you remove the plate and press down with a coin, you can unlock the steering column, enabling you to shift into drive.

Hopefully these solutions will help...but be sure to see your auto service shop for more details on your situation.

Honda Pilot 111,000 miles. Wheel or tire noise?

it can be any of the above, rotate the tires and see if the noise location seems to change, but the last thing i would suspect is the CV, they just click when turning, the wheel bearing is my choice here, they roar, tires make a diff noise.

How to replace serpentine belt on pilot 2003

On the 2003 Pilot you should have two belts, one for your power steering unit and one for your ac/alternator.
Not a great pic, but I think you can see the routing:

2003 Honda Pilot front end thumps when riding over normal bumps in the road. What could be the problem?

Broken or worn out Strut. Can also be a worn ball joint or other suspension or steering part. I would suggest you take your Honda to a trusted mechanic or Honda dealer and have the suspension & steering throughly inspected. This can be very dangerous so you need to not ignore the problem.
