Question about 2005 Toyota Matrix
While driving the engine suddenly died and wont restart. tried restarting and wont turn over and a somehat buzzing sound comes behind the instrument panels, all are working lights, radio and the instrument panel lights except it wont start. checked out all the fuses all are fine. the car has 29591 km on it. as i have mentioned all are working except it wont starts seems like something is pinch. pls help!..thank you.
Pull out the spark pugs so, there is no longer compression. Put a wrench on the crankshaft pully. The engine will turn and the pistons will travel up and down. This is of course it the engine hasn't seized. If the engine turns its the starter. Simple.

You can take the starter off and have it checked for free at most parts stores if you think that is the problem. The starter will not cause it to just cut off though. Did it possibly run hot?
You can try to turn the engine with a large wrench. You will have to place the wrench on the nut on the crank. If the motor turns, it is not locked up. Take all of the belts off to do this.

first of all try to recall when was the last time that you got you engine oil changed. what i think is that your car must have run out of engine oil and u must be running it without oil for a long time. This is the most common reason for engine lock up. The sound you hear must be from starter coil used to start engine.
Take the car to garage as soon as possible.
