BMW 525i 1996 coolant temperature high and engine overheating

commonly overheating occur caused of cooling fan failure. if the temperature reach over the limit the head could be crack or at lest bend and will be leakage the head gasket

Does a brocken timing belt on 1989 525i mean bent valves

All depends on how fast you were going at the time the belt snapped, but normally YES

Are you loosing any water from the radiator or fill up tank?
I would change the Thermostat for starters. they are not expensive and most of the time are the cause of a car overheating.

1989 525i wont start after overheating-Need help ASAP!

engine could be seized...:( sorry...or a hose could have blown (radiator) and hurt or disconnected a main electrical line ...check fuses battery and cables..there is a bulkhead power junction on firewall high rt. side(passenger) immediately next to engine..battery located under back seat passenger side...first thing though..make sure you can turn the motor over by hand (breaker bar on nut at crank pulley) to determine if it is not siezed...good luck
