Check fuel pressure. check distributor, leaks oil internally onto the signal plate, could cause rough running and stalling. check intake gasket. spray carb claener at the injectors and listen for engine noise change. if it changes, than intake gasket is gone. very common problem. has the car been tuned up??has the base idle ever been adjusted?? checked?? if so, than check items above.

My 96 Altima revs to 5000 RPM as soon as I start it and runs between 1.5-2000 rpms at idle, what should I do to fix this?

Check the idle control valve. See if adjustments can resolve the issue. If it does not check for leaks in the vacuum hoses and have them cleaned there might be some debris. Some issues related to this may be caused by wiring issues or a computer box issue.

My car will start but will not idle; what is wrong It starts and will run as long as I press the accelarator. Once I remove my foot from the accelarator it stops running.

Sounds like the Idle Air Control valve is stuck. The best course of action is to just replace it since they aren't usually repairable. Also check to make sure that all the wires connected to it are not chewed up and have power with the key in run.

The IAC is the cylindrical looking unit on the side of the throttle body with a 2 wire plug on it.

Engie will start with accelarator pressed but will cut off at idle

Sorry I spelled engine wrong. Anyway I removed the IAC (idel air controll valve) and cleaned off all the gunk and checked for freedom of movement. Re-installed and car now runs fine . Thanks for the intrest.

1993 Nissan Altima Gearshifter or Transmission problem

Sounds like a neutral safety switch in problem #1 and a sticky or faulty solinoid in problem #2
The tranny has quite a few solinoids that are electronic which sometimes burn out or fail with high mileage.
Hope this helps
