Question about 2004 Nissan Maxima
Could be the coil, injector or plug. MIL (check engine light) should be on and flashing if the car is misfiring. The ECM (computer) will make the light flash if misfire is detected to let you know that more stuff could be damaged if you dont fix misfire and you need to fix it ASAP.

Bad plug and/or plug wire. Also if the car still uses a distributor cap and rotor, inspect those as well.
