Starting problems in Jag x-type 2002

When I try and start the car a ticking sound is heard and various lights light up. But the car does not even attempt to start.

at times the car won't start, it's as if the battery is drained. a bump or jump start solves the problem for a while. the boot open warning started appearing when going over bumps but this rectified itself after getting jump started again. now there is a noise which sounds like the starter motor is screeching which occurs when turning the key. problems soon follow. it can be fine for days even weaks but is getting more frequent. i'm thinking starter motor or alternator.......................please help.

have to continously turn the key on and off just hear ticking until it finally starts goes for a few days or weeks starting normally then the issue returns.

My does the same thing. last week it just stoped. I heared the ticking sound before and reported it to a mechanic. He dismissed it, and now is completly dead.

I wish I had done some research on these cars before I bought one

I'm reading others problems and I had this problem for the first time this morning. I have a brand new battery from the dealership that I paid $300.00 to get installed and this problem occured the first time this morning. What other solutions besides a battery? Do you think it's the alternator or motor?

Just had this same problem, starter was ticking but not turning, would start with jump leads but no sign of a flat or faulty battery. Garage I took it to replaced starter and alternater got £270 charge then when I got it back it happened again the next day!
Since found out that it was simply a dodgy connection between the battery and the starter.

You seem to have discribed a problem that sounds like a no amp reaching the starter issue. should check your wires to make sure all connection from battery to starter are clean and not corroded. But first as usual first check the battery/ change battery and see if prob goes away. The battery may have a defect inside. try another battery first.

2002 jaguar x-type diagnostic code p6003

i have never heard of that code before I have heard of the P0603 code which is a trip malfunction indicator lamp.this is possibly caused by a failing ecu...the code is associated with the trip memory failure. You will have to have it checked at a Jag dealer.....they can check it for about 100.00 bucks..

My x-type diesel has been struggling for a few months running poorly and struggles to start (more so when warm). Jag told me the EGR and inlet manifold was coked up - which I have now cleaned. runs much...

COULD HAVE BAD FUEL WRONG TYPE FUEL COULD NEED NEW AIR FILTER. DIESEL ENGINE NEEDS AIR TO OPERATE.IF AIR FILTER RESTRICTED.DIESEL ENGINE WONT RUN AND CLOGGED FUEL FILTER CAUSE STARTING PROBLEMS PROBLEMS WITH TURBOCHARGER OR TURBOCHARGER ACTUATOR WOULD CAUSE ENGINE RUN VERY SLOW NO POWER ON TAKE OFF.I SAY PROBLEM IN FUEL SYSTEM OR AIR INTAKE SYSTEM.IF YOU HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL FLASH ON.

If the light stays on when your moving that shows a problem....I think that what your seeing is the computer testing the verious curcuits as its programmed to do

2002 Impala Light/starting problem

I had a Dodge Caravan do this same thing to me and we finally found out that the battery was damaged. This was at a dealership I worked at so the mechanics and I tried a few things before we discovered that the problem was in the battery. We even got it started and as we drove the van the gauges were bouncing up and down erratically. Have your battery tested before you buy a new one(most parts store do this free now). A fresh undamaged battery should do the trick. Good Luck
