Just had this same problem, starter was ticking but not turning, would start with jump leads but no sign of a flat or faulty battery. Garage I took it to replaced starter and alternater got £270 charge then when I got it back it happened again the next day!
Since found out that it was simply a dodgy connection between the battery and the starter.
You seem to have discribed a problem that sounds like a no amp reaching the starter issue. should check your wires to make sure all connection from battery to starter are clean and not corroded. But first as usual first check the battery/ change battery and see if prob goes away. The battery may have a defect inside. try another battery first.

i have never heard of that code before I have heard of the P0603 code which is a trip malfunction indicator lamp.this is possibly caused by a failing ecu...the code is associated with the trip memory failure. You will have to have it checked at a Jag dealer.....they can check it for about 100.00 bucks..
COULD HAVE BAD FUEL WRONG TYPE FUEL COULD NEED NEW AIR FILTER. DIESEL ENGINE NEEDS AIR TO OPERATE.IF AIR FILTER RESTRICTED.DIESEL ENGINE WONT RUN AND CLOGGED FUEL FILTER CAUSE STARTING PROBLEMS PROBLEMS WITH TURBOCHARGER OR TURBOCHARGER ACTUATOR WOULD CAUSE ENGINE RUN VERY SLOW NO POWER ON TAKE OFF.I SAY PROBLEM IN FUEL SYSTEM OR AIR INTAKE SYSTEM.IF YOU HAD ANY OTHER PROBLEMS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL FLASH ON.
only thing i think is maybe you have more than one key and one doesn"t have a chip cuz my car has a key that will do everything but start the vehicle....and the chipped key that does start it....just a longshot....but true none the less.
I had a Dodge Caravan do this same thing to me and we finally found out that the battery was damaged. This was at a dealership I worked at so the mechanics and I tried a few things before we discovered that the problem was in the battery. We even got it started and as we drove the van the gauges were bouncing up and down erratically. Have your battery tested before you buy a new one(most parts store do this free now). A fresh undamaged battery should do the trick. Good Luck
