Question about 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora

Parking lights come on and stay on intermittently when the car is off and no keys are in the ignition

Lately I have had a couple of instance where the parking lights come on and stay on when the car is off. This first happened to my wife about 8 months ago, she went out to go to work and the battery was dead. Obviously I blamed her for leaving the lights on, big mistake, I'm still not living that one down.

I noticed that when this occurs, which is not all the time, a buzzing sound was comming from under the dash. After investigating this I found that there are 2 plastic enclosures just above the steering column that contain circuit boards. the one on the right has four small contactors, one of which buzzes and while it does this the security indicator on the dash is on and the parking lights are on. There are two conectors going into this circuit board, if I unplug either one the buzzing stops but the headlights dont work.

Any thoughts?

i replaced the turn signal switch and both of those circuit boards you are talking about under the dash still having the problem. my next step is to trace the wires and look for a spliced wire....

MSchmdt1702 I just fix this problem. I had to replace the switch that the turn signal handle plugs into. The switch cost about 450 from the dealer. I'm sorry I can not remember what the exact name of the part. If I find it I will post it

Indicator lights are staying on the left side of car when the car does not have keys in the ignition on mercerdes benz 320

Is your turn signal lever centered when this happens? German cars have a parking light feature. When the ignition is off. You can turn one side of the parking lights on by moving the turn signal lever in the dirrection of the lights you want on.Hope this helps, Good Luck!

My '00 Subaru has a separate switch on the steering column for the parking lights, I never use it, but the lights will stay on with the key off. Look for a separate switch. If you find one ask the dealer for your $ back
