4wd indicator light blinking...

I have a 2001 Montero Sport 3.5 ES. Last night the 4wd indicator light started blinking for no reason. I had not even touch the 4wd since February. At first it was intermident, then after about 15 miles it started blinking steadily. I stopped and giggled the shifter a few times and it stopped. Should I be concerned? Do I need some maintenence

I have been told this is the awnser after 2 months in different shops and not po dunk ones eather that these could be the problems first the simplest check your transfer case and front differential fluid if it is ok you have a bad freewheel hub soleniod there twin soleniods under your air filter on the passanger side to get a good look at them remove your air intake to view them the part # is mb-620532 and is about 80$ if you replace one do both hope it helps let you know if it helps me . you can email me at

When i start the 2001 montero sport es 2wdrive the check engine light comes on and the motor has a pulsating the brake light flickers off and on can u tell me what this problem is

If your check engine light is coming on, then you need to take it to Autozone and have it scanned asap. They scan it for free, so it won't cost anything. They will tell you what is wrong with the car and what parts you may need. If you have a question, let me know. I am here to help. Thank you very much for using FixYa.

2001 Mitsubishi Montero 2h light on right side one off

I turned on my Montero and the lights on the dash that indicate something (sorry I don't know why they even come on) but it normally has two green lights (1 right 1 left) and only one is on. I thought neither light came on so I am unsure if the one light for the left is on or the other went out.

i hjave the same problem.

Intermittent Flashing 4x4 Light

This was a weakness of the Montero Sport models. If you google Montero Sport 4WD light flashing you will find lots of information. The best troubleshooting article I have found is here: http://4wd.blogeasy.com/article.view.run?articleID=318776 This article is about the Pajero, but the Montero Sport uses the same platform so this article applies.

The Montero Sport uses several switches and vacuum modules to put the system in and out of 4WD. If any of these malfunction, the light may flash continuously, flash intermittently, fail to come on, and it can trigger the anti-lock brake light to come on. In brief, if the 4WD shift lever is engaged, but the transfer case doesn't engage, the sensors show a mismatch and will cause the light to act funny including triggering the vehicle's anti-lock break light. These SUV's need to be shifted into 4WD regularly to keep the switches and mechanisms working correctly.

Try this before you even think about a visit to the $$$$$ Mitsubishi Dealer:
Shift the 4WD lever between 4WD High, Low and 2WD at least 100 times. Often, this will free the mechanisms and resolve the problem. It worked for me after three years of trying everything else including the dealer replacing switches, etc. If this does fix it for you, just be sure to shift the vehicle in and out of 4WD several times at least one a week and this will keep the mechanisms lubricated and functioning correctly. If that doesn't work, try the above link (article). Good luck!
