Question about Chevrolet Cobalt
This same thing happened to me in my 05 Chevy Cobalt LS. It's either a missing or blown Fuse or Relay.

You have a problem with the blower motor resistor. This is a very commen problem on all gm cars and light trucks. The part is not to pricey. You can find the resistor under the glove box buy the blower motor. Two bolts and out it comes.

the only way you can damage your alternator is to not properly ground your amplifier get a bigger battery a optima deepcycle (Yellow one) battery will help so you can use it with out turning your vehicle on.

Have you tried shifting the gears completely through and then putting the car in park. It sounds like the car isn't able to be put completely in park to release the key. Try putting the car in N and removing the key. Even thought the car may not completely be in park to release the key, The gear most likely is in park but not enough to make the switch/sensor to release.
