probably a overstretched cable pull, or defective latch, i had the same problem with my truck. pull hood relese a couple times, and go to hood, give it a love tap with your fist abouve the latch ontop of the hood, if that dont work, you will have to go underneath your volvo and release it by hand with a screwdriver, try and lift the latch over the catch

The only suggestion that I can think of is to have someone push up and down on the hood while you pull the cable. This might lower the tension on whatever is binding. If there is a way to spray some lubricant with a plastic tube into the latch area, I would give it a try. Sorry this isn't more helpful. Just be glad it's not a Jag. Takes 5 hours of labor to open the hood on some models after the hood release handle breaks. Good luck!

Outer sheath of release cable has perished. You need to disconnect the cable from the inside , hold the end of cable with pliers and push forward the outer sheath with v shaped tool eg clawhammer and there will be movement of the cable on the latch side releasing it. Hope this helps

Hood stuck will not lease from latch

If the hood of your vehicle is stuck and will not release from the latch, there could be several possible causes. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the latch: Make sure the latch is not damaged or stuck in the closed position. If the latch is damaged, you may need to replace it. If it is just stuck, try lubricating it with a penetrating oil or WD-40 to loosen it up.
  2. Check the hood release cable: The hood release cable may be damaged or disconnected. Check the cable to make sure it is not broken or frayed, and that it is properly connected at both ends.
  3. Check the hinges: The hinges that hold the hood in place may be damaged or corroded, causing the hood to stick. Inspect the hinges and lubricate them with a penetrating oil or WD-40 if they are sticking.
  4. Check the hood itself: The hood may be misaligned or bent, causing it to stick in the closed position. Inspect the hood and try gently adjusting it to see if that helps.
If you have tried these troubleshooting steps and are still unable to release the hood, it may be best to seek the help of a qualified mechanic who can diagnose and fix the problem.

2005 quattro , battery is dead and hood wont release. Is it an elecrtonic release?

Heidi, No electric release. The latch is probably stuck. While you pull the interior hood release have an assistant push down and pull up repeatably/vigorously until hood releases from stuck position. Lube latch and cable before closing hood. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Hood release under the dash has no tension on it. Hood will not latch closed

The latch is stuck in the open position. I always found white lithium grease worked best on those latches but any good lubricant will work. Try moving the latch manually with a screwdriver. After applying the lubricant move the latch a few times. You should see the tension return to the release, if it doesn't you have a broken release cable.

Hood latch won't release hood. 91 volvo 240.

Have had same problem on 1990 240 DL. Go underneath, tap ball at end of hood latch sideways with small hammer (take a good look at it --- you should be able to see which way it needs to go to clear). Once released clean and lubricate.

there should be a cable coming from the driver headlamp area and going acroos to the front center of the hood. where the latch is. spray penetrating oil on the latch at the front center of the hood.
