Is it a manual, if so, could be gear selector that is damaged. If it is automatic, and you can drive it and not reverse, could be 90% transmission. Now does the engine soar when going up in speed, or doesn't shift into next higher gear such as 2 or 3 or the 4th gear. If it is, then Yup, you got a transmission promblem and needs to be serviced. Will be looking into the thousands at cost.

Changed trans modulator 1991 ranger 4.0 auto

Are you getting a check engine lite? Whether you do or don't scan for codes, and follow up from there.
But I think you may have to have TCM reprogrammed.

I put my '98 Ford Ranger into reverse and it did nothing. All the other gears worked except for reverse. It seems that I now have two neutral gears. Is there something that I can check before taking it...

Hi!

After vehicle has been driven a couple o miles, check transmission fluid level and condition (in park, motor running) should be of a pinkish color, almost transparent if looks darker, change fluid and filter. If level is low, check for leaks. Replace with manufacturer recomended type.

If your problem just started, there is a good chance to fix it following my recomendation.

Good Luck!!!

2000 ford ranger pulls in reverse but not in drive, whats the problem?

When you say "pull" I assume you mean it wont go foward..
1st thing -check the trani fluid while the engine is running in park..
The tranies in these trucks are known to give out.. Reverse is usually run on the 3rd gear band.. It could mean that the band for 1st gear is damaged.. Could also be a vacume & or modulator issue.. Some trani shops give free estimates..

92 ford ranger 3.0, auto trans will not go into reverse

try taking the trannie pan off (drain fluid first) and get a filter kit at the parts store, about 15 or 20 dollars(easy to change) that may help, but this happens to high milage rangers. unless you have a linkage problem thats probably your only hope.
