in2twubble can u post a pic please? dunno if my prob is the same as yours but i have a hairline crack in the top track that runs under the warning lights on the printed circuit board. i initially fixed it with some rear window demister repair epoxy but this hasnt lasted and it looks like its "burnt" where the crack was. do you know if its safe to solder directly to the copper track or will i just burn a huge hole through the circuit board?

We had the same sort of problem - all gauges not working on dash, except in cold. Pulled it out & with a little careful solder less than 10 min later everything's working fine. We found 1 tiny break in a circuit.
After calling around wreckers, we were quoted $120 & $170 for a 2nd hand one. Definately worth the 10 min to check and fix it. Although I would highly recommend getting someone who knows how to use a soldering iron and has a steady hand to do it lol

I had the same problem on my g/f's 2000 lancer GLXi, (with tacho),
i fixed the problem by putting a jump wire on the back of the instrument cluster,
the fault was in the wiring to the tacho part & i drew up my own wiring diagrams for the cluster unit,
then traced the fault,
looking @ the back of the cluster unit, the top right hand screw for the speedometer,,, follow the track on the circuit-board, there is a link wire UNDER the board (there is a dotted line on top where it goes, i think its the left 1,,, there is 2) this track then goes to the bottom left screw on the tacho,,,
i soldered a small gauge wire from the bottom of the link solder joint (MAKE SURE ITS THE CORRECT LINK, THERE IS 2 SIDE BY SIDE) to the bottom right track on the vertical plug socket (its common pos for the warning lights) this is where the "MIRAGE" & other "CE LANCER" (without tacho) gets its speedometer & gauges power from,

kind regards waz
if anyone needs a photo i will pull out the dash again lol its only 6 screws

How do i fix the speedometer needle when it doesnt move from below zero?

no make or model or year so here is a guess
if it is a cable driven speedo --replace the inner cable
if it is an automatic ---replace the VSS on a later car or the sender unit on an earlier model

Speedometer is at 50 MPH when stopped

Try this. Turn the key on, do not start the vehicle. Absence the needle on the speedo. It should move down and then back up. Before it moves back up turn off the key. Repeat this until the needle is at zero. Then start the vehicle. If the needle goes back to a spot other than zero, you may have to take it for a quick drive, than the speedo head is likely bad. This is a pretty common an known issue for gm's. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using!

1997 Saturn SC2 speedometer is stuck at 40mph. Replaced Speed Sensor and is still stuck. I even tapped on the cluster and got the needle back to zero but after driving it got stuck at 35mph. What else...

The mechanism or needle in the actual speedo display is sticking, is the needle hitting the glass? It is likely that you will have to change the instrument cluster.

I have a 1997 Dodge Voyager Ralleye and the speedometer needle fell off because the instrument panel shorts out once in a while and my wife smacked the top of the dash and it fell I pulled apart...

with the needles off and the scanner set to calibrate the speedometer and all the rest of the needles need to be installed at 1/2 full range with the system on unless otherwise noticed by the scanner.

Speedometer is stuck under zero

Pull the rubber trip reset pin out slowly so all you see is the hole & the shaft. Take a long tin-tie (about 5 inch) & fish it inside the speedo to the needle & carefully bring it back counterclockwise when its back at least to "2-3 O'clock" hold it & turn your switch to coil...the needle will go back to zero. keep the tin-tie in your coin box if ever it happens again!

Tach and speedometer gauges intermittently stay at zero

Sounds like a problem in the cluster. These years of VW the clusters could be repared but by someone who knows what they are doing seeing it's printed boards.
