Hi k
im dave
with the car off using a digital multimeter check the voltage output of the battery. it should be around 12.8 volts
turn on your car (if you can) and then check the voltage again it should now be around 14.6-14.8. have someone turn on the heater blower motor to high and look to see if the voltage goes down when started and then climbs back up. it should . after that with the blower still on high turn on the rear defoster and look for the same scenario. slight drop then return to around 14.5 v or higher. If the response is other than described replace the alternator.

    hi k

    dave here.

thanks for the rating and glad i could help save you heaps of time and money. shops rarely diagnose the alternator unless the car wont start or will only stay on momentarily costing money in wasted diagnosis time. i assume you changed the alternator yourself it is a very simple task?

Sounds like your alternater, get a multimeter set it to volts start the car then check the battery is getting 14 or over volts from the alternater to the battery , if your getting less than that it's not putting enough volts back to the battery to run the car with good luck colin

Replaced alt twice in two weeks

I had the same issue a month ago. i'm not a mechanic. i took it to the local garage, and they replaced the alternator. when we picked it up, hte light came back on. he said it was the control module and asked us to go the dealer. the dealer replaced the alternator with an OEM altenator and it has worked since. was the first replacement bad or is the OEM different. not sure...but it has worked since

My 2001 Hyundai Accent has 106,438 miles. Last night the check brake and check battery lights both came on. My battery is less then nine months old, but the car still has the original alternator.

the light that comes on just say "BRAKE", correct?

If this is the case first check the fluid level in the master cylinder. If it is low it will turn the light on. Top off with DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid only. Continue to monitor the level. if it goes down again within 10k miles than there is likely a leak somewhere.

The other thing that will case the BRAKE light to illuminate is if the E-BRAKE lever is not in its full retracted position.

If there was a problem with the charging system a light would come on that looks like a "battery". You should be able to see this light for a couple of seconds every time you turn the key on.

2003 Cavalier. Battery warning light came on

Check for bad connection to the battery. Use a volt meter to check voltage from alternator to the battery, should be 14.5 volts to 15 volts. If you have anything less than that then look for a bad alternator wire from alternator to battery. Also check for a good ground connection to the battery. Do all the testing with everything off inside the car so you will not have a power drain from the system. hope this will help you.

Warning lights are staying on while driving. the brake light, the battery signal and the a/t oiltemp light

Check the alternator output,it should be 13.65,to 14.25 volts,if it is less than this, replace the alternator, check it at the battery with the engine running, please let us know if this was helpful, thank you.
