Alternator runnig good (start engine then disconnect the battery), 3. Once jump start a car, it should continue running until turn it off.(but sometimes battery gage was 1/4 and when driving while it point to 1/2 (it's nomal position) 4.mechanic sugestion: replaced an ignition switch but cost was too much for me. also, when it was not start then digital time clock shows like a reset positon(12:00) that mean it was disconnected with the battery

did you ever find out what was wrong with your vehicle I am having a like yours, when I start my van it runs no problem but when I turn it off for a minute and go to start it again nothing the dash lights up and nothing. I let the car sit for about an hour more or less and turn the key and away I go. Now I KNOW that the battery is good and the alternator are good the starter I don't see why it shouldn't be being that this is an on going thing and if it was the starter why is it a pattern to it not starting, is the van resetting it or something. I you or anyone can tell me what is going on please feel free to leave your thoughts.

your starter is grounded, replace it, it takes me half an hour to does it, been doing this 25 years, when a starter's bearing startes to fail, it grounds itself and messes the electric system. if you need to know how to do it yourself, just ask !

2002 gmc 1500 4.8 engine- turn the key on everything comes on but engine just clicks.. then out of the clear blue sky it will turn over . had the batery checked and it was ok just 1 year old. n

Hi, I am a mechanic. As I understand you, It sounds to me like the solenoid on your starter is miss connecting. It will do as you say when you turn the key to the start position. sometimes it will just click every time you turn the key to start it will click. then out of the blue it will start. usually this is not so bad when the engine is warm. You can test the starter yourself to check it. You will need to remove it though. Don't forget to disconnect the battery first. Hope this helps

How can I tell if my ignition harness is bad?

Battery is dead or starter wires are not making proper connection. Check the starter wires first.

It just clicks when I go to start the engine

Check your battery connection's, if when it clicks one time do the lights go off? Then more then likely bad battery connection. With light switch on move battery connection if lights come on you found your problem.

Once in a while my 2003 gmc safari will not start. i turn the key, here a click but engine will not crank. I wait for a while then starts normally. van has only 35,000 miles. could starter be bad already?

Could be bad starter. Miles don't matter, only how many times you start the car. I would first check for corroded or loose connections between battery and starter solenoid..

Starter problem

your starter might be getting stuck you might have it checked to see if it is working right but it would'nt hurt to have it replaced this doesn't cost much to have replaced.

Engine in 1997 GMC Safari acts like it is trying to start but

Take off your gas cap and have someone stand there with thier ear at the hole, (no smoking), turn the key to on just before start and they should hear the fuel pump humming. if they dont then try to start. if it doesnt start turn key off and at that instant the pump should be heard again. What i think is happening is your pump is not energizing . Its supposed to energize when turning your key on and off. This can be caused by a bad fuel pump or pump relay switch. Hope this helps. please rate me
