Question about 1997 BMW 328

Transmission problem!!! help!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 1997 328i that was manufactured in oct of 1996. the tranny was giving me a problem and so i decided to change it instead of rebuilding. i got another tranny from a 97 328i and had it shipped in from a different city. today i got a call from the auto shop doing the change that the tranny harness from my car did not fit into the used tranny i got. only for the me to realise that the used tranny i got was from a 97 328i manufactured early in 1997. i am in a dilemma not knowing what to do.

my thought is that i could get the harness from the car where the used tranny is from and switch it with the harness in my car. would that work? do i have to get the right tranny? or do i have to change the harness and the automatic transmission module?

i really need help and good advice as i am so depressed right now.

I own a 1996 Buick LeSaber. The transmission needs to be replaced. When I went to a parts store to purchase a new tranny, I was told to get some numbers from a tag on the tranny. there is no tag there. ...

I have never heard of going to the parts store for a trans

I used to own a trans repair shop

You either rebuild your unit or get what GM
calls a CERT (reman) forget the parts store

These is no new trans. Only new one time,
on the assy line

Just go to a trans shop, they will give you
options and answer all your questions

Transmission apparantly went out on my 1996 ford exlorer(eddiebauer)6cylinder4.0 engine-just bought it in oct. of last yr. i was driving on I-5 for oabout an hour when it suddenly just popped...

I dont think you have a transmission problem , i believe you have a transfer case problem. These are repairable but sometimes is more cost effective to replace. I would offer my services but am way to far away for that to make sense. Let me know if there is anyway i can help.

I have a p1870 code on my 1996 odlsmobile cutlass supreme and don't know what is the problem.

ok p1870 is a general code for most gm vehicle indicating a problem with the manufacturer controlled transmision and the only people that have the computer to connect to the tranny computer is a dealer or tranny shop i have the same code in my 96 pontiac for detecting a slippage in the overdrive gear.

1996 Ford Winstar w/ recent tranny flush

well, i used to work at a transmission repair shop, and it is true that you're supposed to overfill these transmissions, but only by ONE quart. 4 quarts would certainly cause a big problem if thats what they did. the speedometer issue however is related only to the vehicle speed sensor which is a common problem on this transmission. i would STRONGLY recommend you bring it to a transmission repair shop (obviously a different one than before) becuase this sensor gets corroded and can be just awful to replace.

also, with your speed sensor not working, your transmission will go into limp mode and will have at most two gears. this is normal. as for the fluid leakage, it could be related to them over-overfilling the transmission and the fluid coming out the vent.

The trani. slips if i start out in drive but if i manually shift it works. any ideas?

Sometimes changing the transmission filter and fluid helps to solve some tranny problems. check the fluid to see if it is dark and dirty. Check also for little pieces of metal or rubber when changing the filter. This will give you an idea if your tranny is about to give out. High volume of metal or rubber pieces means that the gears or rubber clutches are wearing out fast. Always refill with fresh fluid. I think that transmission fluid and transmission maintenance is one of the most ignored auto parts . Until it breaks down. The fluid at least should be checked every time the engine oil is changed.

1996 ford station wagon LX ,transmission fluid over filled, only drives well when over drive is turned off. how do i drain some of the transmission fluid, and do you think thats the problem

Yes, too much fluid will give you overpressure in the tranny. If its a ford then you probably don't have a drain plug on the bottom of the tranny. You might have to remove several of the pan bolts on the aft edge of the tranny and let it drain that way.

Trying to put a transmission into 1996 town and country van get transmission bolted into place and motor and transmission will not turn over something bound up could it be the torque converter or is it...

Must install converter into tranny first. Then bolt torque converter to flywheel after you slide it into place. Make sure converter slips into will need to turn it several times untill it fits into grrove inside tranny.:)
