2005 Toyota Sienna. Radio turns on, can see station or CD, but no sound from speakers at all. Complete silence. Just one day, stopped working while driving.

If you have a multi-speaker setup like my 4Runner (also an 2005) Toyota uses a separate amplifier; i.e. not built into the the head unit (radio). The only home solution would be to clean the contacts where all the plugs connect. Back of the head unit, and the amplifier. If this doesn't fix it the amplifier probably has failed or the electronics in the head unit. Don't forget to disconnect the negative battery cable before doing any of this work, and make sure you have the security codes for the radio before you disconnect.

First you need to know if you DO even have a factory preminum system.

ANTITHEFT RADIO

With no antenna or bad antenna you would get a hiss instead of music when using the radio, but when playing CDs you would hear music.
If the amp or wiring or all of the speakers have a problem, it could stop all sound.

My radio works but no sound is coming out

Avalons had a sound amplifier, when the sound fail the amplifier is bad, the only thing that can disable the amplifier is a short speaker, look this is a common problem a customer puts lots of stuff in the trunk while driving hits a bump one of the box jumps and smash the post of the rear speakers both terminals touch each-other creating a short. somebody working any door replacing a window motor and accidentally creates a short in a speaker. rarely there is a bad connection at the amplifier created by corrosion, just connect and disconnect the amplifier connectors, the amplifier is located behind the glove box is a silver box with 2 connectors the computer is there to that is silver and has 6 or more connectors.

Radio quit working but they say it has an external amplifer is that true?

It hard to say, it could be the radio itself not putting out any sound or it could be the external amplifier. assuming the radio work fine, than it will be the external amplifier or visa-versa. the radio out put low frequency sound which we call it pre-amp line which run to and connected to the ext. amperfier, ext. amprefier then amplify the sound to the speakers. if the ext. amplifier if faulty than you will get no sound even though the radio is working properly. hope that make sense..good luck, if you need to replace the stock ext. amplifier, check on ebay for good deal, don't buy it new from a dealer, will cost you arm and a leg. you can also just replace the new entired radio systems (after market) but use the same speakers.

My radio has no sound it just stopped

This likely means the factory amplifier has failed. You can take a external speaker to see if it works directly out of the cd player, if so replace amplifier, if not replace cd player .Thanks

Speakers went out

First, hotwire any working speaker to one that is out...If that speaker works, then replace the bad one. If the known good one does not work, you need to check wiring and radio itself.
