When you let up and accelerate again, what are the engine rpm's? Do you have a tach. in your car? Please let me know. It'll help me with your problem.

You may have too much backlash in the differential causing your "grab". Check the condition of your CV axles and hub assemblies. The trans. fluid being a little too high will not be causing the problem.

Computer controlled transmissions can get confused at times, from my personal experience. If the problem doesn't happen again, I would ignore it. If it happens all the time, it's most likely the transmission computer. Other things could be the shift linkage, engine vacuum leak, speed sensor, etc... Hope this helps.

My 95 Cummins Dodge had the same problem and adding "Lucas Transmissiion Fix" cured it completely and permanently.

Thier claim is as follows:

Lucas Transmission Fix is a non-solvent formulas that stops slip, hesitation and rough shifting in worn transmissions and completely eliminates most seal leaks. Use in any transmission for preventative maintenance.Use also in light duty manual transmissions to increase shifting ease and transmission life.
Key Benefits
  • Contains no solvents
  • Lowers operating temperatures and stops foaming
  • Can be added to existing fluid without draining any out
  • Effective in an extremely high percentage of cases

98 Grand Cherokee Transmission problem: At hwy speed transmission surges or shifts down RPM'S jump 200 to 300 RPM. Only does it when Transmission is fully warmed up.

check oil level first, than check the electrical connector on the tranny. This sound like the transmission shifts from overdrive to drive. Check the wiring from the transmission to ECU and other items. If than happen again, check the shift cable, kick down cable. If that doesn't help, let the tranny be checked at a servicestation.

First thing,

lets start with a transmission flush and filter change. then have you checked any of your vacume lines. A bad vacume line is the number one thing that causes any form of transmission mis shifting. When it gets warmed up the lines alow cracks to open up and mess up the function of the vacume line. Also you need to have the torque converter checked. You also need to have a computer scan on the vehicle. a bad sensor or coputer could cause any of these problems.

let me know what happens when you check these out.

It sounds like you have lost first gear in your transmission. I have a 93 Grand Cherokee and recently suffered the same problem. The problem is most likely in the transmission valve body. You should stop driving the vehicle immediately to prevent doing more damage to the rest of the transmission. Sounds like you will most likely need a rebuild

1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse transmission slips in overdrive

well the low cost way to go first would be to try and change the trans fluids. If the problems still remains the it may be an internal problem

1992 A4LD trans problems.

Sounds like the shift kit is warn out in the transmission. The overdrive line may not be able to provide enough hydrolic pressure to engage the gears to move the truck. When you switch to regualr drive, that line is able to build the hydrolic pressure to engage the gears. At a certian speed (for the transmission, certian hydrolic pressure) there is enough pressure to engage the gears in overdrive, but go below that, and you have to start in drive again. If this is the case, there is no easy fix for that and I recomend taking it to a transmission shop to have your shift kit examined. Opening up an automatic transmission requires specalized tools, clean shop enviroment, and knowlage more then the average back yard machanic has.

1996 Corolla Auto Transmission problem

Hi. 2005 Corolla CE. It's normal. They tend to do this when upshifting form 1st to 2nd gear. No timing chain readjustment needed.

96 Corolla. Overdrive not working properly, if not engaging after 45mph constantly. If driving on the city, is normal, but not after 45mph, when the car is trying to engage overdrive in order to save gas and preserve the trans gears. If not able to get help at the dealership, find another one and explain them the situation.
