Question about 2001 Saturn L-Series

1 Answer

My only car idles wierd with no power behind it.

About six months ago I had to have the engine in my 2001 Saturn replaced. The tech said that the engine he replaced mine with was used but was from the same year and model just for the version of car that had more amneties (ie a sun roof). I have had to repeatedly take my car back to the tech due to the car not running right. Ever since he replaced the engine my car idles way to low and when it is stopped at a light it is like someone is constantly changing gears. It jerks my entire car and makes it feel like the car is going to die on me. Of course it doesn't until recently. Now if the AC is running and we come to a stop the car stalls and has completely lost power. I am tired of playing phone tag with my tech and taking my car to him just for him to say that everything he fine. He has said that the car idles low because the computer tells it to and that there is nothing he can do about it. What can I do?

high idle concern is probably caused by either a sticking throttle plate, defective IAC or the computer is commanding the high idle for another reason.

the blower motor is found behind the glove box in the HVAC case

1995 Saturn wont idle right

I would take the vehicle to a local auto parts store that will put there scan tool on the car to find out what code was stored. Maybe they will have some possible parts that could be the problem.

Hope this helps some

High idleing

Try pulling the engine coolant temp sensor, They often crack not sure why but the ceramic tip cracks makes the car hard to start, the car's idle may race while shifting gears, and often smokes. The sensor is on the right side of the engine when looking at it on the head. Easy to change and get too

2001 Saturn SL No. 1 Cylinder Mis-fire

Solved my problem: After more internet searching and consulting with my mechanic we determined it was the intake manifold gasket folding over into the #1 cylinder. This is common on Saturn engines. The gasket folds over leaving a leak in the vacuum system which causes the car to run lean. Check for a leak by spraying carburator cleaner around the #1 cylinder intake and you will hear the idle change if there is a leak. I had gasket replaced for $450 and car runs like new. My car is a 2000 saturn SL 1 with 60000 miles on it. Hope this helps someone.
