Question about 1999 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

Air Conditioner blows hot air

The A/C system will not blow cold. The mechanic thinks it's a duct door that requires the dash and more to be removed to reach the door/flap. The estimate is $900 for the job. $898 for labor, $2.00 for the part.
Any ideas about correcting this are appreciated.

I have the same problem. Sometimes the AC works fine, then you can hear a small pop (the AC door closing I guess) before the cold air stops and only hot air comes out.

I have this same problem. My A/C blows fine in the back but it only blows out hot air in the front.

i have the same problem. in the front when i switch from a/c to heat does not work all the way. if i put in a/c possition it will be a while before i can feel some cool warmlike air coming out, if i set it on heat, the air is not really that warm but it feels a little different than the a/c. however in the back all of it works fine when i use the control for the remaining of the car. i was told that the door is supposedly cracked in the front and it would cost $900 to fix, but they are not really sure if that is the problem in the first place.

how hard is it to replace temp control switch, or even how hard is it to replace the door?

I would try replacing the actual temp control switch first ( the one in the middle of the three) on the dash control unit

Air conditioning system, when you turn on the air conditioner the drivers side blows cold air and the passengers side blows hot air? What causes this problem?

The most common cause of this is that you have a stuck air temperature control blend door, this can be a motor actuator issue or a jammed door or both (common). To replace both parts you will need to completely remove the dash from the car to access the blend door.

Left Vents blow warm/hot air when calling for cold air

Usually a sign of a faulty blend door under the dash.
The blend doors direct air thru the ac and heater core along with the upper and lower vents.

Air conditioner blowing hot air

Blowing hot air when set to A/C is almost always a stuck blend door, dead blend door actuator, or a cracked or disconnected blend door actuator vacuum line. The blend door is inside the a/c ducting under the dash, but the actuator will be accessible outside the ducting.

My a/c is not blowing cold air and heater is not

I know this problem well, it is caused by a failed air temperature control blend door actuator motor or a stuck bleed door in the heating and ac duct, to replace this part requires you remove the dash assembly, there is no other access provided, this not for the home mechanic, it is very time consuming nd requires a good knowledge of repair work to complete the job, a factory repair manual is a must, not Haynes or Chilton, they will not do the job, not detailed enough.

Heat blows out driver vent when ac on

this problem is caused by a defective air temperature control blend door actuator motor, it is about center of dadsh in air ducting, it moves the door that diverts air for cold from ac or hot from heater, you must remove the dash to repace it, about a 15 hour job fotr a home mechanic with a factory repair manual, nearly imposs without one.

Air conditioner doesn't blow with much force

Refrigerant is not your problem!!!!!!!!

Your recycle door has broken off and fallen over the suction duct to your blower. You can verify this by removing the blower under the dash on the passenger side. Reach up into the duct and if there is a plastic door obstructing the duct, it has broken off. With a little manuvering you can remove the broken door through this hole and you will have air again, just no control of inside or outside air. Dodge has redesigned the housing for this recycle door which is supposed to stop this from happening. The redesigned housing and door come as a unit from Dodge for about $30.00 and this includes the electric actuator. This requires removing the Dash to change the housing so if your not ready for several hours work, take it to a mechanic.

Heater in car doesn't bow hot air but the air condintioning works

Does the car run cold or is the temp. correct. Check the thermostat first. check that the radiator and res. is full. Check the hoses to and from the heater core. If one is hot and one is cold then either the shut-off valve to the heater core is defective or the heater core is plugged.

Heating problem

The ducting to the left must be fed from the heater box. Yet the blend door must not be sealing allowing the cold air the blend with the hot. Check the blend door mechanism, behind glove box, or some dash panels may need to be removed to access this door.
