Question about 2001 Honda Civic

1 Answer

Distributor Seal.... I took my car in to a Firestone to get an oil change and of course they told me a hundred different things that was wrong with my vehicle. I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX - 4 door. They told me that the distributor seal needs to be replaced. I called one of the Honda part departments, they told me that my particular model did not have a distributor seal.......HELP!!!!!!!!!! Also, I recently had my strunts and strunt mounts replaced, less than a year ago. On the passenger side the in front, every time I turn or back up and turn I hear a popping noise. The CV shaft/axle, whatever it's called was replaced less than 6 months ago, so they think it's the coil there any chance it may be something else? NEED HELP IN TX.

Sounds like the coil spring is not seated properly into the strut seats.

I had an oil change where they put in 5w30 oil in my car, I have a Chrysler 300 C and it calls for 5w20 oil. After the oil was changed and I drove off, my engine and the oil lights came on in less than 10...

It's true. The oil never passes through the switch, it just comes in contact with it. The dealer sounds like they're taking you to the cleaners, though. I've never heard of a PCM flash being needed for an oil pressure switch. What year is the car? It's either a bad sensor or shorted wires. I checked some forums and it seems pretty common that your sensor fails. The part is relatively cheap and you do not need a dealer to perform the work.

Can I change my oil filter on my 2002 gmc envoy without changing the oil? An idiot parts guy at a gmc dealership gave me the wrong oil filter. To top that ag Firestone the mechanic took off the correct...

You can change just the filter, you need to put a oil drain pan under the filter to catch what flows out and be as fast as possible, remove the incorrect one and fit the new one, you will need to top up the oil a little but won't need to do a complete change.

My 2001 trooper went from 19 miles to the gallon to 10, over night. Took it in for a slipping feeling and the first place told me transmision oil is burnt. Told me I need a new catalytic converter and...

well, i must admit, that transmission fluid does not turn lrown overnight and should have been one of the things that firestone should have checked.......not to mention the cat converter....

my advice is it does sound like your transmission will require an overhaul, as inside the transmission there are things called bands which are friciton material (similar to brake pad material) and they surround the drum...and when this friction material comes off (wears) it gets absorbed by the oil and turns it from red to brown, and if you smelt it, it would smell like burnt toast.,....bad smell.....

due to the nature and cost of the job, I would look around for at least 2 quotes and see what you come up with, i would not necessarily go with the cheapest but with the person who treats you the right way and is upfront with everything....

It was good that you cam on here and asked us to provide you with info...if there is anything else we can do, please do not hesitate ....

2006 Saturn Vue AWD loses oil fast

First I'd find a different shop. $100 to look at it? I don't think so. Sounds like this may be a transmission issue.

Oil in distributor

I think the seal around the distributor shaft is the primary problem. The oil is definitely causing the engine performance issues.

Oil leaks

clean off the area where you suspect the leak is then run and check. The only way to change rear main seal (and have it actually work) is by removing crankshaft. I have seen this attempted at least a hundred times and never seen one yet that didn't leak. Some of the new oils for "older engines" have a seal softener in them tha usually will help but don't expect results for took years for seals to harden & wear.

Headlights go off when dark

I had the same problem with my 1998 Toyota Corolla. The sensors worked fine during the day, but all of a sudden they were out when it was dark outside. In addition my headlights would not come on when I tried turned them on manually. Of course this was a major problem. So I took my car to the dealership and they told me that the car needed new electrical wiring. They could not tell me how much it would be. Of course I don't trust a dealership to give me a good price, so I took it to Firestone. Not all mechanics are certified for Toyota, which was the case for the mechanic at Firestone. However, he was able to give me a temporary fix. He disabled the sensors all together so I could turn on the headlights manually. I hope this helps.

1995 Nissan Altima Stalls while driving

Our's did the same thing. We tried changing the fuel filter...nothing. Then, my father-in-law did some checking around and different mechanics told him the same thing....the DISTRIBUTOR. Apparently this is a fairly common problem with our '95 Altima's. We changed the very worn spark plugs then went to the NAPA store and ordered the distributor....$242.00 for the whole part. We got it the next morning, my father-in-law changed it and now the car is working like a charm!!!! It is an EASY fix...all you need is a screw driver!! GOOD LUCK!!
