Overheating on a 2003 mitsu outlander

I am not completely sure that the car is close to overheating but here is what has been happening. While driving the car it does not happen but when I am idling for any period of time or stuck in traffic the temp gauge will rise rather rapidly. Once I get the revs up to about 2000 for 10-15 seconds the temp gauge drops. I have changed the thermostat but that did not fix the problem.
Can anyone help diagnose this problem,

Your need your air controller fan replaced. It is a recall item on the 2003. I had the same problem had the recall done no more problem

I have the same problem with overheating while sitting in traffic but not while driving. I thought it was an a/c problem but the most recent time it happened I did not have the a/c on. I was sitting in traffic and smelled something burning. I looked down and my temp gauge was rapidly rising. I had to sit on the side of the road for an hour to let traffic die down and let the car cool off before I ventured out again.

I have had my fan relay replaced twice and it solved the a/c problem but not this one.

The dealer replaced the radiator fan controller twice- said there was a second recall.

I recently have had the same problem (overheating while idling)and had the recall done a few years ago so I am stumped.

Going to call the dealership tomorrow.

There is an open recall out for the 2003 Mitsubishi outlander. It's for te engine cooling fan to be replaced. Just call your local mitsubishi dealership and schedule to bring it in, it's free. It's been an open recall since 2008. I just bought mine and I'm taking it in tomorrow.

I have 2005 outlander with 96k. dealer recommends timing belt and water pump replacements. what are the other belts that the dealer is talking about. they also recommend transmission maintenance- change...

they are correct ,actually this should have been done at 60k, im sure they are referring to the drive belts ,if you are getting this done at the dealer they will use genuine mitsu parts ,but if you take it to an independent garage make sure they use OE compatiable ,quality parts mitsu can be picking about the parts you put in them , esp. trans fluid MUST BE mitsu SP3 !!!!!! and spark plugs must be denso or ngk plugs only no bosch!! or youll be doing again

if you are removing the power clip, grab the recepticle it was plugged in to (look at your new bulb as a reference) and twist counterclockwise. The entire bulb assembly will come out, and replace with the new assembly.
