If the air bags deployed, I believe you can cut the airbags to remove them so they won't be in the way. You wouldn't have to deactivate them, as they won't deploy again until replaced. I don't know how bad the crash was, but they should be replaced--they probably saved you from injury already. countrycurt0

Locate airbag sensor

Many are mounted to the floor board under center counsel between front seats. If your airbag has been tripped you must replaces this module. They're hard to order new but I've had good success reusing from junk yard cars that haven't had bag deployed. Warning do not mess with airbag system until battery has been disconnected for at least 2 hours. I disconnect over night. These modules hold a charge with capacitors so it can activate in an accident even if battery cable is severed before bags are deployed. You must give capacitors time to discharge on their own or risk setting off the airbag by working with this system to soon. Of course this warning is only for working on systems that haven't already been set off or deployed. ie when reassembling system.

My ex husband was in a roll over car accident in his 2006 ford fusion going 70 mph and his air bags didnt deploy. is there a recall on those or does he have a possible case for his injuries?

Front air bags are not designed to deploy in side impact, rear impact or rollover crashes. There are several reasons why your air bag may not have deployed during a crash. The first reason is that perhaps your crash is not the type of accident where air bag deployment would be helpful. For frontal air bags, this includes many, but not all, side impacts, rear impacts and rollovers. This category also includes minor accidents in which the driver and front passenger (if there was one) did not suffer any significant injuries requiring medical treatment. Many people do not realize there are a lot of side air bags that do not deploy during a rollover accident, even when the vehicle rolls onto its side. That is because those side air bags do not include an appropriate crash sensor that can detect rollover crashes.

Is it safe to drive your car with the air bag light staying on?

If you don't mind being in an accident &
possibly have no air bag deploy

Why wouldn't you have it checked out,
instead of asking a question like that?

There is a lot more to that system than air bags alone

Was in an accident and the air bag did not deploy

Some cars you can manually turn off, because it could harm a small child, check to see if was somehow turned off, usually a key can turn off or on. Check you r manual if this is one of those options. If not then fault instalation from factory. Let me know, Mike

My daughter got into an accident with air bag deployment. I towed the vehicle home to work on it. I disconnected air bags and now can't get it to shift out of park. There was no damage to engine/trans...

try bypassing the park lock. there should be a little plate about the size of a dime on the right of the shifter pop it out with a flat head and stick a bic pen in it and push down it will release the shifter u may need to take the whole thing off and disconnect it

My 2003 Matrix air bag light came on this morning. I've read some of the comments about this and heard it's very expensive. Does the light mean it won't work if I get in an accident or will it deploy on...

Hello, welcome to FIxYa. Please allow me to assist you.

First, we need to know why the air bag light is on. This can be from a variety of reasons. Some are expensive, some are not. I would first suggest taking the car to a place that can read the air-bag computer, and get the code or codes that are stored determined. The codes are what turns on the light, and leads us through the diagnosis. Without the codes, it is rather difficult to address the cost issues that would be involved.

To answer the second part of your question...the air bag may not deploy in the event of an accident if the light is illuminated on the dash.

Finally, no, the bag will not deploy whilst driving.

Please get the codes read, and get back to us, so that we may be better able to assist you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance today.

Says service air bag what does this mean? does this mean the air bag will not work if hit or will it explode on its own?

The car has to be scanned to retrieve the codes to diagnose it....
but the lamp means the system is inoperative until the problem is fixed...(it will not deploy) not to worry, it will not deploy while driving....but on the flipside it will not deploy if you are involved in an accident either......some people prefer them inoperative, some people like the safety of them...choice is yours

1997 Jeep Cherokee air bag light on

The air bag light has come on to alert you to a system problem. Do not try to service it yourself. If you try to disconnect the system and don't know what you are doing you will deploy the air bag which can hurt you depending on your position in the vehicles interior at the time. Do the correct thing and let your dealer perform diagnosis on the system. If you deploy the air bag it will be a ver costly item to replace. Usually in excess of $1800.00 just to purchase one.
