Any repair shop will charge about .5 hours to replace. If your unsure about how to do it, don't. You will end up loosing more than your patience by trying it yourself

Serpentine belt

depending on the shop a serpintine belt replacement on your vehicle will run about $50 - $100 in labor alone. the belt uses the power of the engine to run accessory systems like your air conditioning, powersteering. and vital systems like running the alternator to charge your battery and turn the water pump to circulate coolant/antifreeze in the cooling system. typically on a corrolla a belt will last roughly 50,000 miles before it starts showing signs or wear which are cracking and squealing, if you dont replace it the cracks will get worse over time until the belt eventually breaks. which to be honest takes a very long time.

Replaciing serpentine belt on 2006 Toyota Corolla

You'll have to remove the engine cover under the bottom so you can position the new belt on the pulleys properly. Get a wrench or tensioner tool and turn the tensioner clockwise to relax the drive belt. Don't apply excessive force.

It's hard to draw a picture with words, but looking at the engine from the passenger side of the car, there are basically two top pulleys, two middle, and two bottom. The drive belt goes around the outside of the two top and two bottom, and on the inside of the two middle.

What are the steps in installing a serpentine alternator belt?

Open hood, losen alternator, down at the bottom on the battery side should be a pully, using a breaker bar pull this up which loosens the tension on the belt, might be a good idea to draw a diargram before removing the belt. Purchase a good belt at an auto parts store, they come in all prices.

You also need to check you alternator belt, ac belt for cracks or Serpentine belt for wear and tear and replace if need to. You also need your transmission fluid replaced if you have not done so. If it is a Manual transaxle I would also replace the gear oil in the transaxle gear oil. Last, replace air filter. Most of these items that Emissionwiz and I suggests-you can do it your self and save money.

Good luck.

Hi, I want to remove my worn alternator belt on my Toyota Corolla 1998 1.8L Engine 7AFE (not Serpentine belt). Anyone know correct procedure or how to release the belt tension? Thanks Phil Auckland New...

i use a 1/2 inch leverage bar .there is a hole in the tension pully(usually the top pully) put the end of the bar in the slot and pull. you will have to hold the tension on it with the bar while you remove the belt.
