Sounds like a plugged fuel filter,,,changed it lately?? what might be occurring is,,after turning the engine over for a few minutes,,it just cant get the fuel,,,then after sitting the fuel slowly goes threw the filter,, and you get enough for the engine to start,,,clean filters are a must,,,give this some thought,,,their about 10 bucks if you change it yourself.

My car won't start in the cold weather. I don not have Power Locks or Power Windows. What is the Problem?

That sounds like a battery issue. Batteries have whats called CCA (cold cranking amps) it is the main thing to pay attention to. This is a measure of how much current the battery can provide at 0 deg F. Batteries work better when they are warm, so the colder it gets, the less current it can provide.

Starting an engine requires a lot of current, over a very short time. Meanwhile, cold engines are harder to start, requiring more power to get them going. So look at your battery and its CCA and since u said u bought the car a few years ago. You probably didnt replace the battery yet have u? Batteries usually have a life of 4-6 yrs only. Hope this helped

We have replaced the ignition switch in our 2003 saturn ion. How do we reset the passlock?

Leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes until the security light stops flashing. Turn the key off and wait 5 sec. If it starts and dies, leave the key on for 10 min. again. You might have to leave the key on 3 times. While you are doing this have a battery charger on it. If the battery goes dead. (You might have the key on for 30 min if you have to do it 3 times the battery might get low) you will have to start all over.

After approx. 20 starts, my 2003 ion will not start and it takes about 10 min. for it to start. This happens in the cold weather. I have not had the problem in the summer.

I had the same problem. Turns out the problem was part of a recall. Take it to a GM dealer to get the recall done. Haven't had a problem since.

2004 Saturn Ion wont start from time to time when it is cold outside.. Like this morning my daughter went outside and the car started right up with the temp outside 7 degrees. She warmed it up for awhile...

LOL repeating questions. Its your ignition switch. its a common problem with ions ( I myself have a 04 ion and had it replaced twice in 3 years) repair is around 400 dollars with labor. Just google "ion not starting in cold weather" and youll get TONS of threads. No recall either its stupid

Car won't start when it gets cold.

Sir,
You are suggested to check you plug wires they might be getting too much carbon on them and another thing is that you can get your car serviced and air filter clean if not done above 2 weeks.

saturn has a TSB#04-08-45-005D the ignition switches go bad usually when its cold outside and they dont let the car start, common ion issue,,you need a new ignition switch,,not the lock cylinder the switch its a little electric box on the end of the cylinder housing you need to replace that and reprogram the new one to the car, switch is like $40

2003 Saturn Ion will not start. Security lock is on.

The fix for this problem is well known, so is the cause. GM needs to step up in my opinion. You can fix it yourself if you're willing
