Toggle switch I recently discovered a toggle switch near the parking brake and was wondering what its' purpose is. It's apparently been in the 'off' position since I bought it (last month).

Most likely the part is the Valet switch, it is part of an aftermarket alarm that may have been removed, that is the most common place they are mounted.

Have a 97 honda. Just purchased. It has a toggle switch installed that works with original key ignition. That said... toggle controls whole electrical..everything works..except tail lights, and the dash...

So If I understand, you turn on toggle and then use key to engage starter? Do brake lights and turn lights work, just not the running lights? Or are all tail lights dead. If none work, juice is not getting to the headlamp switch. Best fix would be to replace the probably bad ignition switch and repair wiring back to original, but quick fix would be to run a second wire from toggle switched side to the headlamp switch +

Radio, Brake Light, Interior lights, And Wont Shift Out Of Park.

This problem sounds like you dislodged the switch on the brake pedal lever. You need the signal to unlock the vehicle from Park. You will probably find that the Brake lights do not work when you press the brake pedal.

Now if the switch is good, you probably broke the fuse feeding power to the switch. You can get a wiring diagram online by running a Websearch or going to and registering your car. This site has a HELP section at the bottom of the page and you would need to toggle between free and pay info.

Key wont come out unless i turn battery off

A car can be stopped without a key, or if ignition switch fails. Put car in Park; look for 'fuel pump off' switch, in trunk under carpet. For manual ******, shift car into highest forward gear, release clutch while depressing brake pedal. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

My radiator fans are not working and I am afraid that the fan relay went out and am going to check it tomorrow. Will it hurt anything to straight wire the fan to always run?

well you see the relay is built to switch a higher current circuit using a smaller current. it is a safety hazard as using just a toggle switch will allow too much current to flow thru the circuit. you should replace the relay. now if after you replace the relay the fans dont work but the fans are good(ran power wire directly to fan for testing purposes) then as a temporary measure you wire a switch to Control thr relay(relay actually handles the fan current). find the fan relay. it should have 5 pins. on the case of the relay there should be a diagram.

the numbering should be the same.

using an ohm meter checkthe relay socket pin86 with red lead, black lead connected to ground. if zero ohms, then that is ground and pin85 of relay socket is +. pin30 should read 12 volts with meter, run wire from here to one side of a toggle switch located near steering wheel so you can access it when you start car. other side of toggle switch runs to pin85.with the small wires into the relay socket still in place, plug in relay. throw toggle switch to on and if everythings connected, fans should come on.

I have a '90 cherokee laredo, and I am wondering if there is any special sequence to engaging the 4x4. also, there is a red and green set of toggle switches on the console by the e-brake that don't seem to...

You can engage the 4x4 into high range while driving at lower speeds, to go into low range, you will need to come to a stop to engage 4 low, and also to disengage 4 low. As for the toggle switches, they are aftermarket that someone may have installed for some type of accessory they may have mounted, i.e. fog lamps, driving lights, auxillary interior light, etc.

1996 jetta- electrical problem, AC/highbeams

You need to have a look at your AC switch , dim and bright toggle switch and also the relay system on your fuse box and check for relays that might be heating up and the possibility of water ingress onto the fuse box which have been a vw problem for many years and if you dont find any problem there then start looking for electrical harnesses that may be chafed or broken and shorting out inside the harness but the fact that you can trigger it off points to a relay.

I have a 1985 Cheverolet pick-up. I have a cluster of under dash guages that I installed about ten years ago. Last week I replaced them with new ones. After doing so, My rea tail lights will not cut...

It's probably the brake lights that are staying on, check again, if the brake lights are staying on the brake light switch needs to be replaced. The reason I believe it's the brake lights is that they will turn on even with the key off so make sure which lights are staying on.

Wont shift out of park

Same thing happened to me. I had accidentally kicked something while streching out my right leg. It turns out there is an actual switch somewhere up above your feet directly above the brake pedal area that I had toggled when streching my leg!

Because I knew that it must have been that I kicked something, I was reaching under there, above near the brake pedal and eventually, miraculously found a little switch, which when toggled again, allowed me to get the car out of park and drive away.

I have yet to find any reference to this in the owners manual or online yet, but it's a fact.
I tried to find the switch again a moment ago, but could not - had to get back into work as I had been stranded on the road for the last half hour.
