My 1995 civic wont start. The engine doesn't crank at all. I changed the main relay as my mechanic suggested (plu Honda parts responsable said it solved 99% of such problems). Still no change. The problem was intermittent and became permanent. Would it be the distributor? I tried to remove the rotor but I can't reach the retaining srew because it is not aligned... and I can't crank the engine to align it... Any suggestion?

    Thanks!

Perfect! Clean and clear!! Feels better than my Hayne's!!Before buying a new one, I'll try using one from a good starting car.

    Thanks a lot!

  • mgags Jul 29, 2008

Well, here I am, stil with my unstarting car. Last week, I reached my limits and decided my Honda dealer would be better than me at this game.It cost me 330 bucks to get a new battery (which was supposed to correct the problem...). My car started very well at the dealer, but never started back after that!!!

After looking in deeper, it seems the ignition switch is defective (continuity is not as specified). Honda doesn't sell the switch on its on; they only sell it with the whole key lock assembly (375$). I believe I will look on the used market.

    How does that sound?

  • mgags Aug 20, 2008

Well, well, still at the same dead point.

Went back to the dealer. Verdict: there is a flood in the firewall!! Water everywhere! Computer's soaked! Don't put much more money in that car!

That's what I've been told. Since I care really much about my car, I looked in myself: crouched under the dash and... NO RUST!! The only thing I saw was a little condensation. Since it rained a lot in the past month, it's no big surprise!

Went back on testing and found somthing weird: the starter is brand new and works in another car but wont turn in mine even when I plug its small terminal to the battery. I'm looking for a faulty ground...

    Any other suggestion?

  • mgags Aug 24, 2008

After a long search, I realised current was getting to the starter without being able to activate it. I thought it could be caused by a bad ground somewhere. With my Hayne's in hand, I followed the ones around the starter adding the two from engine block to engine compartment. Bingo!!! It was a faulty ground from the engine block to engine compt. cleaned it up and VROUMMMMM!!!!

I even recuperated a precise speedometer and a working radiator fan with this single operation.

Conclusion: when you suspect your dealer or mechanic is wrong, dig further or more precisely larger!

    Hope this can help!

I have the same problem in a 2000 Honda Civic EX. I ran the car for about 5 minutes - changed the oil and the filter and when I went to start nothing... First thought was tha I bumped something getting the oil filter off; then I replaced the starter and got the same response. Battery is brand new, starter/solenoid assy is brand new. All fuses and relays seem to be intact.. Where is the faulty ground that you mentioned in your thread??? Where on the engine specifically??

    THanks in advance

Location of ignition control module 2001 cadilac deville

Ignition Coils/Modules
The electronic ignition system uses an individual ignition coil for each cylinder. There are two separate ignition module assemblies located in the camshaft cover of each cylinder bank. Each ignition module assembly contains an ignition control module and four ignition coils. Each ignition coil connects directly to a spark plug using a boot. This arrangement eliminates the need for secondary ignition wires. The ignition module assemblies receive power from a fused ignition feed. Both ignition module assemblies connect to chassis ground. A Reference Low and four ignition control (IC) circuits connect each ignition module assembly to the PCM. The PCM uses the individual IC circuits to control coil sequencing and spark timing for each ignition coil. The IC circuits transmit timing pulses from the PCM to the ignition control module to trigger the ignition coil and fire the spark plug. The PCM controls ignition system sequencing and timing events

Inspect the old ignition cycle which is out.Is there any problem noticed of Ignition cylinder getting worn out.
Because when issue of ignition not turning off,its faulty ignition lock cylinder or faulty ignition switch.I suggest re-inspect the new ignition cylinder.

1991 Dodge Spirit ignition problem

The "SPRING-BACK" Action is Originated in the Ignition Switch itself (THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH) I think that is where you should Look. On these models, the ignition lock and ignition switch are removed as an assembly. Refer to IGNITION LOCK .
Disable airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair . After procedure has been completed, rearm airbag system.

On these models, the ignition lock and ignition switch are removed as an assembly.
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Remove tilt lever.
  3. Remove three Torx column cover attaching screws, then the upper and lower column covers.
  4. Using tamper proof Torx bit tool No. 440-TX20H or equivalent, remove three ignition switch mounting screws.
  5. Carefully pull switch away from column. Release two connector locks on seven terminal wiring connector, then disconnect from ignition switch.
  6. Release connector lock on four terminal connector, then disconnect from ignition switch.
  7. Remove ignition lock from ignition switch as follows:
    1. With key inserted and switch in Lock position, use a small screwdriver to depress ignition lock retaining pin flush with lock cylinder surface.
    2. Rotate key clockwise to Off position. Ignition lock should now be unseated from ignition switch assembly. Do not attempt to remove ignition lock at this time.
    3. With ignition lock in unseated position (lock bezel approximately 1/8 inch above halo light ring), rotate key counterclockwise to Lock position, then remove key.
    4. Remove ignition lock from ignition switch.
  1. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
    1. Connect two wiring connectors to ignition switch. Ensure switch locking tabs are fully seated in connectors.
    2. Install ignition switch on steering column.
    3. On column shift models, shift lever must be in P position and park lock dowel pin on ignition switch assembly must engage with column park lock slider linkage.
    4. On all models, verify ignition switch is in Lock position (flag parallel with ignition switch terminals).
    5. Apply a dab of suitable grease to flag and pin, then position park lock link and slider to mid-travel.
    6. Position ignition switch against lock housing face. Ensure pin is inserted into park link contour slot.
    7. Install ignition switch retaining screws and torque to 12-22 lb-in .
    8. With ignition lock and switch in Lock position, insert ignition lock into ignition switch until it bottoms.
    9. Insert key, then while carefully pushing ignition lock toward ignition switch, turn key clockwise to Run position.
    10. Check for proper operation on ignition switch in all positions.
