I just bought a 1995 toyota 4runer limited and it ran perfectly for 2 days then all of a sudden while on the interstate it just stopped as if it ran out of gas. didn't think it did but tried putting more in anyway. This didn't help had it towed back to the house. plugs are getting spark and it seems that the fuel pump is working and I changed the fuel filter but it still won't start. It does crank

I changed the intank fuel pump on a 93 4runner, still won't start, checked fuse in engine comartment, seem's ok. looking for fuel relay? It has spark and will run if you put some fuel in the carb throat.

The fuel pump doesnt turn on when you turn the key on like a ford does. Toyotas start off residual fuel pressure. Why would you replace ignition stuff is the problem is no fuel?

SOURCE: turn key wont start- it cranks

check plug for fuel pump in harness near gas tank for corrosion and it may also have seoerated wire where it comes out of connecter the seperation may be from pulling on wires when pump replaced insulation may look alright because it streaches.

I'd have to test when problem is ongoing. When you first turn on key, no crank, you should hear the pump run for a few seconds then stop. For initial prime, the computer doesn't need rpm signal. Engine cranking, the computer needs to see rpm signal or it won't ground the fuel pump relay. W/o rpm signal, no spark at the plugs and no fuel injector pulse. I know your talking about fuel, but, when problem is ongoing, check spark and fuel injector pulse, engine cranking.
Intermittent problems are a pain, have to test when problem is ongoing.

Turn key to start-engine turns and i have spark wont start

I would check fuel pressure so you can rule out pump. I had a bad pump right out of the box before. Also you may want to change fuel filter so you can rule out plugged filter. You have spark, sure seems like still no fuel.

Shouldn't there be fuel pressure with the key turned to the run position? I only get fuel pressure when the starter is engaged and turning the engine over.

no you will not have fuel pressure untill the engine is running

fuel pressure is not required to start the engine...only to keep it running

when you turn the key on the computer send a signal to turn the fuel pump on for a second and prime the engine...once it starts the fuel pump relay kicks the fuel pump on then you have pressure.

When you turn on ignition key fuel pump runs. when you go to start the pumps shuts off. i can use starting fluid and it starts. is it pump or pressure regulator

you need to verify fuel pump pressure at fuel rail with pressure gauge, you need at least 55psi of fuel pressure to fire up car.
the fuel pump is made to only run five seconds when you turn key on to pressurize fuel line for when you turn key to start,

93 merc topaz feul pump wiring harness question

The engine computer turns on the fuel pump for 3 seconds when you turn the key to "ON".
If the engine does not start, the pump will not run.
When you turn the key to "Start", the fuel pump runs all the time the key is held in start.
When you turn the key on, it actiavtes the power relay, which provides power to the PCM or engine computer.
The PCM then activates the fuel pump relay, sending power to the fuel pump.
You should have one wire with 12V for 3 seconds in "run" position. This comes from the fuel pump relay to the inertia switch in the trunk and then to the fuel pump.
You should have one ground wire. black
One wire going to the fuel guage.
You may have another ground iwre ging to a diode before going to ground.

02 camaro wont start fuel pump relay or fuel pump ? How to tell ? The car started right up then died & wont start ! I dont hear the noise from fuel pump when I turn key !!

Take the fuel line off before the filter and turn the key on and see if you get any fuel out of the line. If you don't get any fuel unplug the wire connector to the fuel pump turn the key on and see if you get a hot wire going to the pump. if you get a hot wire then it is your pump. If you do not get any hot wire then it should be the relay.
