Question about 1999 Audi A4
Hi guys, when i start my Audi A4 the engine catches ok, but then fades out, will catch eventually after 6-10 attempts.
I have encountered similar symptoms on my 1996 audi A8. The car will start and the engine run under its own power, then cut out a few seconds after. After some hunting around I discovered that the problem is the wiring to the coil reader at the back of the ignition barrel. I understand this problem was present on some A6's and A4's.
Audi did relase a modification to the wiring loom part no: 8DQ972275 costing around £14 but fitting would require the removal of the steering wheel and columb surround.
Hope this helps!

Try replacing the engine temp sensor. Temp sensor is telling ECU the engine is hot when its is actually cold. After the 6th attempt there is enough fuel in the cylinders to create a ritch mixture, then it goes.
