Open tailgate 2 screws hold housung in. Remonve the screws pull the huosing out and change bulb. On mine the housing had melted so O called the Ford garage and they got the socket out for me. I had to buy a new socket but that was it.

There are some expandable black plugs (about 1" diameter) that hold the taillight assembly to the body. You can access them by raising the hatch, and gently pry them both out.
*
The assembly will swing out and drop if you don't hold it up...hold it firmly and observe how the front part of it is held in by the plastic guide.
*
The bulb is easy to pull and replace. I avoid touching any bulb with your fingers to avoid leaving oil deposits. I would have a friend test the brakes and the signal (with the ignition on), after the bulb is installed, but before you replace the assembly.
*
When the assembly is aligned back in place, you can push the re-usable plugs back into the hole, and they should expand to secure the taillight.

If this helps, please rate my answer. If not, I still appreciate constructive comments, too.
