My check engine light comes on very often and everytime I've gotten it checked, they say it is the gas cap. I know I put the gas cap on right. Recently when I get gas, the pump clicks off like my tank is full after only a couple gallons. Then it will not stay on when trying to get gas. Could there be a problem with my fuel tank pressure or something?

There is a problem for sure if it wont let you fuel, i would go to another shop it sounds like this shop is not too good, your problem could be a stuck closed vent valve or a blocked vent hose, may have a sipers web blocking the vent hose. whats happening is the system is not venting and it turns on the eng light and also when you are fueling its building pressure and shuts pump off, the air is not venting out , good luck.

Yes, you need to try a new Vent Solenoid for the Emissions hoses on the venting system for the gastank. There is also another test which can find leaks in this system.

Not many Repair shops have a machine called a "Smoke Machine", but call around and compared prices. The test is really simple. The machine is hooked up to your gastank vent hoses. A special chemical smoke is forced into the vent system, and when a leak is found, you fix it.

You may replace a vent hose or just patch it, as a road hazard may have punctured it. Or the vent Solenoid could be leaking and the test will show that problem too! As I notice you are driving a 2008 Model, you could be covered for this repair by Warranty.

Actually, anything pertaining to Emissions leaking into the atmosphere would fall under the longer pollution coverage. I hope you find my solution very helpful.

Gas fumes coming from behind back tire below fuel tank door?

No hose on the overflow hole.
The cap should click when it is tight.
You may be smelling the vapor canister which is doing its job.
The fuel tank system is sealed so the computer opens a valve from time to time to vent the tank thru the canister. It may be in the engine compartment or around the fuel tank.
If there is a problem with the fuel tank vent system the check engine light should come on.

Why si the check engine light on on my 2006 Chevy

Tighten your fuel cap 3 times to make sure its tightned. don't push it in when you tighten it. Use Fuel injection cleaner like once a month... You may have gotten bad gas. Don't use 100 percet gas. Use gas with ethenol... you get better gas mileage. I go through 3-4 tanks a week. I use the 87 octane and I put Berrymans Fuel injection cleaner in once a week. I don't know about your hesitations though I drive a 5 speed

Why check engine light come on mostly after refuiling after a long drive ?

Because your vehicle is a 2008 I feel it shouldn't be anything to pressing but still take some precautions.

What alot of people don't know is sometimes if the gas cap is not put on tight enough a little air might get in or your gas pump might have to work a little harder because it can't get full vacuum pressure with the cap slightly open. these are not major issues.

these are reasons why your check engine light comes on. It happened to my 2005 Buick Rendezvou We had the check engine light on for a week. The car never shuttered, stalled, delayed starts it ran perfectly fine. I took it in to check engine light their computer showed that it was the EVAP system which is the heating and cooling system I would have to get it checked for leaks or do a static check for leaks.

This didn't look good but then one day I had done some work for a friend told him of my problem he told me it could be my gas cap. The next day I asked my wife if the gas cap was working on vehicle it actually was broke I replaced gas cap and the check engine light came off.

Now with this story (which is true) don't assume every problem could be this. But if you are not noticing any stalls, delayed starts, shuttering anything out of the ordinary check the cap at times to make sure it is closed.

If you keep on having light on and replaced cap or made sure was securely on then take and get it checked out.

I have a 2002 Mercedes Benz SLK 320 w/about 87K miles on it. The car is running fine but the check engine light is on. How do I get this light to go off?

By having it scanned and cleared with an OBD tool. This light comes on when it detects a problem. Could be a bad gas cap, or it could be a misfiring engine. The code you get from having it scanned will pinpoint the trouble area

Check engine light keeps coming on

The 1st thing to do is find out which one of over 100 codes is stored in the engine computers memory, whenever the check engine light comes on a code for that problem is stored in memory. You can go to any Auto-Zone parts store and they will run this code read test for free, then post them back here and I will help figure out what has gone wrong.
