Question about 1997 Pontiac Grand Am
I need help asap.Having a problem when starting. It turns over then shuts off.Starts.Off.This goes on about 6 or 7 times. When we finally get it to stay running, at no particular time and for no particular reason, all the idiot lights come on and all but the gas guage and the speedo guage go dead. We've checked as many wire harnesses as possible, checked all connections to the battery, checked the steering column inside and out, no accident or serious renos of any type. But still no fix. Please someone tell us what we are missing. I am so certain that it is one simple thing that just has been over looked and with the twist of a set of pliers, all will be perfect again. Oh ya, and the car runs absolutely perfect other than these two delemmas.
Those have security switches in the ignition lock cylinder. it might be warn out and need replaced. thats what my problem was. but its expence. mine was $190.00

Check your power stud where the power enters into your fuse box. if the power wire on it gets loose then it will mess all kinds of things up. also check all your grounds

Not sure about the on, off problem.
as for the lights/gauges, my car also did this. once we replaced the water pump, they started working. we don't know why, but that seemed to fix them.
