Low beam headlights do not work, but high beam headlights do

The low beam headlights do not work on my 1991 nissan truck. The high beams work fine. Does anyone know what I can check or what might be causing the problem? I appreciate any help I can get.

I've been troubleshooting this same problem on a different vehicle this week, and I can give you the steps I'd take.

1. If both sides went out at the same time, the problem is *NOT* likely to be the bulbs.

2. Check the fuses to see if both low beam lights are on the same fuse. Many cars have one fuse for low beam and another for high beam, so both lights out at the same time typically means fuse blown.

3. If the headlights are OK and the fuses are OK, then the problem is *LIKELY* the headlight switch. In my case, AutoZone has one and it can be installed easily; but in your case, that may not be as simple.

Please post your findings or comments.

First check low beam fuse if ok, check the dip switch, there should be battery volts at the switch with the head lights switched on, there should be battery voltage to high beam terminal at the dip switch, now dip to low beam there should now be battery voltage on the low beam terminal ,if not the dip switch is faulty,if ok check for battery voltage at the head light , if no voltage broken wire or connection to the light, if ok check head light bulb and earth wire to the head light.

Where is the high beam headlight fuse in a 1996 Nissan 200sx

Those fuses should be in a plastic box under the hood near the battery also check the relays. It should have a legend printed on the lid for fuse and relay function.

My low beam head lights will not work, but high beam will. What could the problem be.

The headlight bulb has two elements. One works with high beam and the other works with the low beam. The low beam element is broken/fused. You have to change the headlight bulb in this case which is available at any of the auto spares shop.

What you have sounds like a Headlight SWITCH Problem, You can check the Fuse for them (DOUBTFULL) but its a Large one @ Power distribution Box Under Hood.
