Question about 1995 Chevrolet S-10 CA Edition

Chevy s 10 cuts out when you are driving the rpm's will drop even with foot on gas then all of a sudden it takes of again. Fuel filter has been changed it did not help

    truck bogs out wont take gas pump the gas peddle a little then it goes.

    It feels like the problem is getting worst dont know where to start.

    Bought this truck over weekend and had to shoot starting fluid into air intake to start.Changed plugs and old ones were worn 10-15 thousandths off.Truck now starts but is very sluggish at start and gets better as you drive but when put in overdrive it falls flat on its face but not always.Some days it just plain has no power and then all of a sudden it will run great.Also has a new fuel filter and TPS prior to purchase.could coils be the problem? Not enough spark all the time like they come and go?Oh ya its a 1995 S-10 with a 2.2 L MFI

    I have this same problem. I have checked my tps and my maps. I do have a bad donut on the exhaust pipe. or will an exhaust leak on the manifold affect the oxygen ?? (not sure if im asking this question right)

Check all vac hose for cracks first if never been changed and look at all the T connectors as well
Next would be check MAP sensor and all components associated with the EGR and Fuel

I have a1989 chrysler lebaron that start and drive as long as I keep my foot on the gas even when I stop but once I take my foot off the gas it dies and take a long time to get it started again


the fuel filter is located under the car on the passenger side near or at the fuel tank either on the front or the rear of the fuel tank.the fuel line is connected to it so if you follow the larger of the fuel lines it will take you to the filter.one line is larger(pressure line) and one line is slightly smaller(return line)

Car stalls when stopped, cuts out when accelerating to HWY spds.


You could have a bad or intermittent fuel pump. Not a cheap thing to have.

An OBD 2 scanner can read fuel pressure on the drive to see if your fuel pressure drops off at odd times to confirm. It can also tell if there are transcient vacuum leaks at idle which the engines idle air control cant compensate for.

Do the plugs, wires and cap too.

Rpms drop and rise while driving and stopping.


anytime you can smell gas, you have a leak, not good to drive if you can smell strong fume and not safe to drive. check all fuel line and fuel filter connection. check gasket on intake manifold and your injector. The rpm goes up and drown erratically, check your distributor connections and the ground wires. If distrubutor has bad ground or conection can cause erratic behavior RPM guage.

Accelaration loss of power


I'd have a fuel pressure test done to be sure, it isn't fuel related again. Takes 5 or 10 minutes so cost should be minimal. The other thing that comes to mind is a plugged exhaust. (catalytic converter) Quite possible on a 10yr.old vehicle.

Loss of power at 2400 rpm's


Check your mass airflow meter. If it's bad, at least on my 1990 300ZX, the car won't rev over 2400RPM (it's a safeguard built into the ECU of the car). Grab one from a scrapyard and swap it in and see if that fixes the issue.
