My brake pedal will not budge, and a hissing noise present when running

The stop lights won't go out until the pedal is depressed, as there is a switch which is activated by the pedal.

A hard brake pedal is probably caused by a defective servo. The hissing noise is probably an air leak in the servo.

Switch the engine on, open the bonnet (the hood..) and see if you can locate the hissing - that'll probably be in the brake servo area.

If you don't know what a brake servo looks like here is a generic image:

My 1988 jeep cherokee takes way to long to stop. The brakes are fine, i had them checked. The pedal wont go down all the way.It seems like you literally have to stand on the brake pedal, then it will...

Check the power booster in the braking system. You may also have air in your brake lines and this will need to be bled out by a competent mechanic.

My 1992 cavalier shakes while idleing in gear with foot on break but stops while in motion or idleing in park?

hi from uk the symptoms you clearly describe sound like your brake servo /vacuum cylinder is at fault ie whilst brake pedal is off all is ok ? but when pedal pressed engine falters? this is a sign that the seal on the vac piston inside the servo unit is allowing air /atmospheric air to enter the servo as you brake and this assists braking however when inner pistonseal is leaking at some point inside the servo bore ie a scoared or rusty point ?the atmospheric air passes the piston/seal and so the vacuumpipe to servo is drawing this air into inlet manifold resulting in upsetting fuel mixture ie weak too much air ratio to fuel resulting inshaking engine you describe ? try this?? if you disconnect vac pipe from servo unit then seal off the pipe with thumb then ask assistant to start engine then it should run ok ? also it should be ok when b/pedal pressed remember there will be no vac assistance ?? if above test prove right ? then you will req a new servo unit only not complete master cylinder too ? you can diy this then bleed brakes after replacing servo ? hope this helps

Hear air sound inside car when i brake

seal gone on servo unit ,but if not leaking when engine running leave well alone ,look up at the end of the pedal shaft and look for a foam seal ,this is the air filter for the servo clean it if you can get to it ,this might reduce the noise

INSIDE PROLONGED DIIIINNNNNNGGGG NOISE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASE--IF I TAP THE BREAK PEDAL THE NOISE STOPS, BUT RESUMES THE NEXT TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED

This is, without doubt, your Brake servo unit. The diaphram is leaking, hence the noise. You will have to get part number V30793673-2, Cost me €500 in Ireland. No repair available, and a bit difficult to install too....

Our S80 Vovlo, as the vehicle is ruuning, I hear a air leakcoming from the brake patel area, as I touch the patel the noises stop and as I let out the brake patel, the air leake strat again, have any

it sounds like the vacuum pipe to the break servo is leaking or it could be the servo diaphragm broken hence you hear the noise in the car, if the brakes are harder to press its most likely to be the servo unit more than the pipe i would also expect you to having a ideling problem due to the extra air in the intake system. hope this helps regards John
