My sidekick sometime when you stop it wont idle what could be wrong

Wont idle( as in too low?) i wont guess, but here is the top list
1: egr stuck open.
2: misfiring. fuel , spark or timing belt slipped)
3: if all things are prefect , then and only then can idle controls work.
that being a clean ISC valve. idle speed control
if idle is too slow , only hot? and just before a stop
usually that is sticking open EGR,

Check throtle position sensor... one section closes a set of contacts when you take your foot off the accelerator... this is sent back to the engine control computer which adjust the timing to insure the engine stays @ ~ 800 rpm. It's easy to set with just a simple multimeter...

I have a 1995 suzuki sidekick that is revving hi then low while in nuetral also when driving now it revvs up very high while sitting at a stoplight

at what RPM?,sure the 2wd has no tachometer,

Sidekick, with what engine? sure 5speed and 2wd,
but what engine.?
in 1995 they (last year this) 2 engines
the 8v and 16valve,
both, night and day different, EFI.
TBI and MPI injected, 8v is black top, 16v says 16 valves on top.
but both engines, will fail ISC controls like that if there are problems.(idle speed controls)
the surging (hunting) is one of 2 things.
  1. (too lean, or air leaks)
  2. or ISC lost control)
the ECU on the car will in fact hunt the ISC if it can not attain
800 RPM hot IDLE, that is its JOB, to do that, endlessly.
in fact 200 times a second.!
but is not working. (this control, its out of control for sure)
to find this can be easy or hard.? (luck and true causes)
depends on true cause.
I cant do both engines here, be like 10 pages.
The 8v engine races with all air leaks. and hunts. (races)
the 16v goes lean with all air leaks, (air density system is unique)
and goes slower, RPM and may hunt. no RPM stated so cant wax smarter...sorry.

so its a dirty ISC? cant close fully, ? clean it? first.
the 8v has air leaks. caused by vast reasons.
cracked hoses. leaking diaphragms, even the brake booster can leak. lots of leakage patch possible
or some one fiddled the idle air bleed screw making it fail.
try closing that valve (screw) turn it CW directly clock wise.

this page covers both systems.

this ISC cleans just like the EGR that leaks.
egr leaking cause, low RPm and it too, can make the ISC go nuts.
so, but no RPM stated. so.....
eg: hunting from 1000 to 1500RPM
or hunting from 500 to 700 rpm?

i pinch all hoses first.
if RPM drops the hose is cracked or the other end is leaking air.
every 50k miles?

does RPM go below 800 RPM HOT engine?
yes ./no
this a is key factor.

Where is the IAC located on 1996 isuzu sidekick

The IAC assembly, mounted on the right side of the throttle body, controls bypass air around the throttle plate. By extending or retracting a conical valve, a controlled amount of air can move around the throttle plate. If engine speed (rpm) is too low, more air is diverted around the throttle plate to increase engine speed.
During idle, the proper position of the IAC valve is calculated by the ECM based on battery voltage, coolant temperature, engine load and engine speed. If the engine speed drops below a specified rate with the throttle plate closed, the ECM will then calculate a new valve position.
On 1.6L engines, four different possible designs of the IAC conical valve may be used on these engines. The first design utilizes a single taper shape, while the second design uses a dual taper shape. The third design uses a blunt-tipped valve, whereas the fourth design uses a rotating shutter. Care should be taken to ensure use of the proper design when service replacement is necessary.,,,

Where is throttle body sensor located on 1995 Suzuki side kick

on the side of th the throttle body.
and that is at the end of the throttle cable, bolted to the
engines main intake air plenum.

there were 2 engines used then and 2 EFI systems.
the down draft TB 8 valve.engine G16A
and the side draft. , 16 valve engine G16B

1993 suzuki sidekick jlx 16 valve automatic trans, the over drive light starts blinking when i take off and the trans jerks, i have to floor it sometimes so that it wont die

the 0D flashing means the 4speed TCM(computer) brain has errors stored, you can place a jumper wire, and get the codes easy.

I want to know if the suzuki sidekick 1994 1.6 16 valve/ uses valve lifter on the camshaft

NO, the engine is an overhead camshaft the rocker arms ride directly on the camshaft so their is no need for a lifter, by the way the valve lash should be .003-.005 of an inch.

That would be normal. I slight variation in speed is a normal thing. If it's more than 50 rpm, you've got some other problem.

Check if you put back all the air (vacuum hoses) hoses to their proper places. You might inter change them making the EGR valve open. Also check your fuel filter and fuel injectors.

Revs rise and fall when meant to be idleling

Check your EGR valve. EGR valve should be close when idling, if it opens, idling speed will drop. A defective EGR valve or the computer that controls the emmision may be the cause of your problem.
