Hello waddle, we need to confirm that it has spark at the spark plugs. After that it needs to have fuel pressure. The 3 "poots" sound like it ran out of gas....If you can hear the electric pump come on, and the fuel filter is clean, you should have pressure at the fuel rail on the engine. If the pump does not come on, and the fuse ( ECM B fuse powers the pump) & relay are ok, & you have voltage at the pump (inside of tank) then the pump needs to be replaced... I hope this helps, reply back if further assistance is needed.
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 The #1 spark plug is the front spark plug on the drivers side and the cylinder location in order from front to back on the drivers side is 1-3-5-7 and on the passenger side it is 2-4-6-8. The ignition rotor rotation is clockwise.
If your Distributor cap is not numbered then replace the new wires, or transfer the old ones to the new distributor cap one wire at a time. Identify the #1 spark plug wire and start from there.
Did anyone check the spark plugs and wires? Make sure the Spark plugs are the correct NGK Spark plugs, nothing else. Fuel pressure is another thing that need to be verified under a load, lke the mountain you are having trouble with.
Test all the cables, never dismiss the fact that a new part could be faulty.
Make sure you put the HT leads back in the right order...
Make sure the oil pump is primed, some engines refuse to start if there is no oil pressure... find a way to fill the oil pump manually otherwise it may take ages to get oil pressure.
might look at the spark plug wires and plugs make sure none of the wires are burned or cracked destributer cap could also be a culprit or the rotor or the coil .
A diagram may not be needed as its a reasonably easy fix to do on your own.the distributor ca p will only fit on properly one way because at the base of the cap locaters can only fit the distributor if they line up.When doing the spark plug leads do them one at a time and if nessecary write or mark leads as 1,2 etc .The rotor can only fit on one way but put a mark on the distributor to show where the rotor was pointing when you took it off and if it still points there when the new one is fitted. When changing distributor cap and leads they have to go to the correct place.Pays to mark the outside of distributor cap where the locating bits are On the new and old one.Fit the new cap and rotor then take a spark plug lead and fit to new cap 1 at a time. You can tell by lining up the marks on the outside of the distributor cap when you hold them one on top of the other.Good luck
