2000 gmc jimmy brake lights

Having a problem with my brake lights. The center light comes on when I apply the brakes, but the left and the right do not. The back lights come on when I hit the keyless entry but not when I hit the brakes. I checked the bulbs and the fuses and everything is fine. Any ideas?

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra. The top center brake light comes on, but the left and right rear brake lights do not. Fuse is good and so are the bulbs.

The multifunction switch is located to the left of the break pedal. Whe you purchase it , it. Is attached to a harness of wires, the hazard button and the signal light handle. All is connected.

I had the same problem with my 2001. I found it was the multi function switch. Better known as your turn signal switch. I found that the hazard switch portion of it had shorted. replacement is fairly easy, aftermarket part is available, much cheaper than GM.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Jimmy. My headlights, signal lights, hazard lights and top break lights worked but not my left and right break lights. After research online, I found that the multi function switch was the problem. Replaced the part and my left and right brakes are working once again. You do not have to take the steering wheel or airbag out. We went around that as long as you remove the airbag fuse and negative battery cable.

20000 GMC Jimmy brake light came on, someone told us it's the booster. Is this the same as the master cylinder or something different. Also where is it located?

don`t just change parts because someone told you to without checking it out first.with the brake light on check the fluid level in the master cylinder if its down check the float in the cylinder as these will get stuck.also check for fluid leaks in the entire brake system and condition of the brakes themselves as when they wear especially the disc brakes the fluid will go down as the brake fluid takes up the worn brake material so the calipers don`t have to move as far to apply the brakes.the master cylinder is the component that holds the brake fluid under the hood that you would top up if low.the brakes booster is what the master is bolted to and gives the car power brakes as opposed to manual brakes.

Have issues with trailer lights. Both turn signals on trailer flash when I use left or right turn signal. Have 7 pin factory plug. Lights on trailer work fine, hooked up to 97 Silverado. Act funny on 2000...

Standard wiring colors are as follows:

4-Way

5-Way

6-Way

7-Way

Green

Yellow

Brown

White

Red

Blue

Purple

Right Turn & Brake

Left Turn & Brake

Tail Lights

Ground

Backup Lights

Electric Brakes

Auxiliary Power
Green- Right Turn and Brake
Yellow- Left Turn and Brake
Brown- Tail Lights
White- Ground
Red- Reverse (Back Up) Lights
Blue- Electric Brakes
Purple- Auxiliary Power

It sounds like your green and yello wires are shorted together somewhere along the length of the harness. I would check the wires on the trailer first. Easier yet, if you have another trailer to connec or access to another to use for testing, connect to it and see if the problem repeats; if it does the trouble is in the vehicle's wiring.

Trailer brake controller problem

I found the problem. Talking with a technician from the controller company, we determined that it was a fuse problem. I found that the fuse to the CHMSL was blown.

Wire harness for trailer

You will need a test light, don't worry about the colors. Four wires, one for left turn signal, one for right turn signal, one for parking lights, and one is ground(usually black). Hook up ground, turn on trucks left signal and hookup to one of trailers other three wires, you will either light up the correct light or wrong one just continue til lights match coming off your truck to what you want to light up. And brake lights are left and right signal, so if you do signals the brake light will work. I can explain further if you need help.
