Rocker arm, 69--327--hydraulic lifters
Engine running, loosen of rocker arm until it starts to clatter, turn rocker arm nut down slowly until clatter stops, that should be zero lash position. Then turn nut a 1/4 turn pause 10 seconds. repeat until nut has been turned the number of turns specified in chart, one complete turn according to specs.

What is the procedure to adjust hydraulic lifters on a 1995 Chevrolet 5.7L engine

Loosen rocker arm nut until you can hear it clatter(meaning it's loose)then tighten it down until you hear it stop clattering and take it another 3/4 of a turn at the most, if you hear the engine stumbling you've gone to far back it off 'til it stops stumbling and back it off 1/8 of a turn or so and you should be all set. This is all done after engine has reached normal operating temperature.

I have a 2002 Grand am Gt 3400 engine.. Car ran fine, no problems..Went out to start it one afternoon and engine clattered very badly..so i turned it off right away.. took off the valve cover and i did...

The engine needs to be replaced. Clatter can be the main and rod bearings or the lifters. Lifters clatter with no oil pressure. Low or no oil pressure is usually bearings. Oil pumps rarely go bad, they are a very simple set up And work forever. I have never replaced a pump because it was bad. And running an engine for 30 seconds would not do that kind of damage. But running a long time low on oil will.

How to adjust valves on chevy tahoe99 v8 4wheel drive 5.7

Adjustiyour hydraulic lifters with the engine running Startt the engine and allow it to warm up. Begin to loosen one of the rocker arm adjusting nuts. You should hear the valvetrain just start to "clatter". Slowing tighten it down until the "clatter" just stops and then turn it 1/4 - 1/2 turn additional to set the plunger depth (lifter preload). Continue this procedure on all the valves. If you hear excessive noises or the vehicle runs crappy you will be doing the procedure again. As stated above, if you have access to a mechanic's stethoscope, you can set the end at the top of the rocker stud to listen to the noise a loose adjustment makes, which will make finding "zero" lash easier. I have an old set of valve covers with the top cut out to minimize the mess.

Just changed oil in kia sorento 06 manuel transmission oil light stays on and clatters

Hi there,

DANGER....this is telling you there is NOT enough oil pressure. The clatter you hear means inadequate oil is reaching the cams or lifters.

Can you confirm you have used the correct grade & viscosity of oil? Is oil leaking?

Please re-check the oil level again - allow vehicle to sit for 5mins, then check oil level on the ENGINE dipstick. If dipstick level is up to the full mark, then assume you have enough oil and let the engine idle for 5mins.

If the clatter remains, then suspect a problem with the oil pump, or oil filter causing a blockage.

Cheers,

Engine knocks when cold

is this even in summer time, or has this just started occuring since winter got here... if its since winter got here, its perfectly normal to hear the valves clatter when the engine is cold.... if it knocks in summer time also, you have something a little more serious goin on, could be rods, could be the mains, could be both rod and main bearings, lifters, scarred cam... but being this new of a vehicle, id say its just a clatter from the lifters being in cold weather.. hope this eases your mind a little

I have a 2007 1500 suburban with 5.3L ''Still under warrenty'' When I decelerate then accelerate, the engine valves clatter, should I hear any at all or maybe the question is how much is normal

Is it valve clatter or spark knock. You should not have any valve noise or knocking noises from the engine. Has the service engine light ever come on.
You can have the Suburban scanned at your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts free of charge.
Let me know.
