Question about 2001 Ford Focus
I am having problems with my Ford Focus Saloon. Several weeks ago I discovered that the air conditioning was no longer working - I would press the switch but the light would not come on. We have had the air conditioning refilled but this has not solved the problem.
Not long after this problem developed, the speedometer started behaving very erratically. We would be driving along at about 30-40 mph when suddenly the speedometer would shoot up to 100mph or higher. This problem has been getting worse and the speedometer now seems to be in a state of regular flux. I have a feeling that it is worse when listening to the radio or using the indicators, but I am not 100% sure about that.
The VSS (vehicle speed sensor) sends the signal that activates the speedometer. Interestingly enough the signal is also sent to the radio to adjust the volume for road noise. That would explain your perception that it is worse when listening to the radio. Now, solving your problem may not be as easy as following the link between these two devices, but I would check the vehicle speed sensor first.
