Question about 2001 Buick Century

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Buick Century. The front drivers side window works about 80% of the time. You can roll it up and down for a few days, and then it will either get stuck in the down or up position while driving. After a while it will start working again.

Switch setting on drivers door not correct. May be in lockout to prevent accidental operation when driving or the switches themselves are faulty.

My drivers side window will go down, but not up. it does go up about a sixteenth of an inch at time each day when it's started up? is this a swith or motor problem?

If it was the switch it wouldn't work at all. It is either binding up somewhere in the window channel, or the motor is on it's way out.
I worked on a buick that did practically the same thing, I took the door panel off, greased the channels and checked for binding, I changed the motor, worked perfect.

remove the inner door pannel the screws securing it will be in the handel and hiden clips around the edge prise them away with a flat bladed screwdriver, once removed you will see the window glass that has come off its runners, undo the winding mech from its fixings and reposition the glass in its runners, you can lock the glass in the up position with a piece of thin wood or simillar if you cannot fix why it came off its runners,

This problem is very likely caused by the drivers side power window switch being defective, I have seen this very same problem in the shop more than once and the new master switch fixed it. here is the part number and price from www.Rockauto.com

2003 Buick Century - window problem

I've had a similar problem with my 2003 Buick Century. In my case, the driver's side front window one day went up and would not come down. I knew that the switch was malfunctioning by sticking in the up position since the window continued up despite the fact that Iet off the switch when the window was half way up and it continued going up. I had to pull over and pull the master switch assembly from the door panel and unplug it to prevent the window motor from being damaged by the constant power feeding it after the window was up. Basically, it would have burned the motor out. I cleaned the switch and it now works fine most of the time. I still need to replace the assembly. Not sure this is the reason in your case. I would check the back window and see if it goes down with the switch on the back door panel. If it does, then you are having problem with the master switch assembly on your front door panel. Moisture from rain from the window being down during rain or dirt may have corroded the switches' contacts.

Driver's window

I have the same problem, its more than likely a sticking motor. I just punch the door panel below the window switch (where the motor is) and it works. You may have to bang it a few times but i have to do it about once a week on the front right or my car.
