    passenger door will not open

  • Anonymous Sep 05, 2008

door panel has 3 screws - one behind handle and 2 in arm rest. I t also has a plastic expanding pin in the side of the door. Remove these and all that remains is about 5 pushpins. You''l have to gently pull on the door panel to remove it from the frame. The outside handle nuts and regulator should be visible then.

The inside drivers door handle on my 2006 HHR broke. The dealership says its not covered in the warranty and the only way to replace it is to purchase a new panel/handle assembly. This is crazy beccause all that holds the handle on the panel is a plastic rod and spring...someone help me.

I figured out how to get the panel off, but am pissed of the quality of the interior door handle assembly. The drivers inside door handle snapped and JB Weld nor Super Glue could fix the situation. I would hate to think I have to buy a totally new panel and assembly to fix the situation.

I have the same problem with my door handle and they want me to buy a new door panel for over $300. I can't find a salvage yard in town that carries any parts for my 2006 HHR. Does anyone know where to get the part?

  • Anonymous Jan 26, 2009

During a very cold day the door handle snapped. They (GM) want 300 for replacement of whole door panel.

  • buckstud Mar 27, 2009

i was holding the door handle in the open position as i shifted the transmission into park and the handle BROKE in my hand!! i was not pulling forcefully. the  action of the unlocking mechanism created the damage!!

We had to have 3 out of 4 of our outside door handles replaced, and the driver's side inside door handle replaced (which required them replacing the whole inside door panel). Fortunately our car was still under warrenty. Our front passenger inside door handle broke last month, and our warrenty has expired so they want over $400.00 to replace the panel now. This on top of numerous other repairs we had to have done (under warrenty fortunately). I don't think I will be buying another HHR!!!!

I'm still at the 'roll my window down' stage for
opening the door. There seems to be enough
of us with broken handles to maybe raise a li'l hell
with a threat of a class action suit.I love my HHR
otherwise, but no replacement at a reasonable cost?
I did GM work as a toolmaker for many years, and I would fire
every engineer involved in the design or lack thereofet .
I'm olduhme@mail.com if you'd like me to pursue it.
I'm gonna discuss it with my lawyer, anyway.
I think it could maybe result in a possible recall .
They normally try to avoid negative press.
Appreciate some feedback
thx,
Catch

Agree completely! Will never buy another HHR or Chevy product as long as I live. I was qtd $650 here in Ontario Canada by the dealer, so needless to say, this isn't getting fixed anytime soon.
I work in plastics, and I know a bad design when I see one, and having an 1/8" pc of plastic as the main door lever that will always be used, is just a bad designer, and a bad manager approving the design. Come on Chevy, smarten up. There's a reason why you guys almost went under!

My 2007 Buick Lucerne drivers side outside door handle pulled out of the door. How do I repair?

first purchase the door handle assembly then remove the door panel. make sure the window is up and reach in and disconnect the rods making a note of which one goes to which one. unbolt the door handle and remove. the new door handle may come with a new rubber seal for it. position over new handle and reinstall. make sure to search the door panel for hidden screws holding it on before you pop the clips.. hope this helps

HOW DO I REMOVE DOOR PANEL ON A CHEVY HHR 2007

On the inside trim, you can remove screws (these screws may be covered by filler pieces or may be visible, or they may require you pry a plastic piece off that covers the screws) that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls.

1997 buick park ave 4 door right front door handle won,t work from the outside

Order the exterior door handle AND the clip that attaches the rod to the exterior handle from your local dealership ( any part in the salvage yard will have at least as much wear as the one U are replacing ) Also order a can of touch up paint matching your car. After you have the parts and have painted the new exterior handle, roll down the window and remove the interior door panel. ( instructions have been posted at 'replace door lock buttom' ) Two nuts, one on each side, hold the broken handle in place and must be removed ( DON'T loose them ). Loosen the rod from the clip at the top to allow a bit more room, But take note on the way it is attached ( you will need to reattach the rod to new handle ) To install new mechanism put the new clip on the rod, carefully place the gasket and the new handle in place and install nuts to secure. Test the door handle and make sure it works. Reinstall interior door panel.

2002 Silverado outside Door Handle

yes. you should remove the inside door panel.

to do this, remove all the screws you can see. One in the door handle, one by the mirror, then remove window crank/buttons

the take a flathead screwdriver and CAREFULLY pry the panel off. it is best to pry where the plastic pins are holding the panel on.

reverse procedure to reinstall.

Installing exterior driver side and passaner side door handles

I found this on another page, hope it helps:)

Remove the plastic cover behind the door handle assembly by removing one black 14mm nut from just above the door handle, and 1 screw (usually phillips) from the bottom of the plastic cover.
Remove linkages from lock cylinder and door handle assembly. Use a small flathead screwdriver to slide retaining clips forward, and linkages will come free.
Remove one black 14mm nut from the very top of the door handle assembly.
Remove one phillips screw drom the bottom of the door handle assembly.
Door handle assembly should now come free by pulling out slightly at the top, and pulling upwards.
Transfer lock cylinder and key minder light (if applicable) to new door handle assembly. Lock cylinder is retained by a single TORX bolt.
Reinstall in reverse.
TIP: If you lose or damage any of those black plastic coated nuts, order new ones. They are GM p/n 10067214 and should be around $0.58/each. There are two on each door.
