Mine with 67k miles has same issue. One import place says timing chain tensioner is broken, but Jaguar says it's impossible. Jaguar also says they don't know problem, but could figure it out for $2500 to remove the top half of the engine, THEN determine problem THEN charge additional money to make actual repairs!!!!!!!! Going to a German specialist on Monday, who also has expertise in Jags.

The timing chain on my 96 sunfire is rattleing. Need to know if there is a way to tighten it up.

you have a hydrolic tensinor that tightens the chain. i would replace this from what you are describing the tensionor is going out and needs to be replaced.

Rattle in front of engine when running. Was told may be timing chain? 160,000+ miles no service history

I had a nasty 'rattle' in the front of my engine on an older truck of mine (around 190,000 miles) and it was the timing chain. The guide for the chain had broken and caused my timing chain to rub against the front cover and start eating it's way out (the rattle). Got it fixed, new chain and replaced the front cover as well and everything is fine. Good luck, I hope this helps.

2004 Nissan Maxima RATTLING NOISE from ENGINE

I have a 2002 maxima with 75k mile and heard a rattling which died down after it warmed up.

It was a bad timing chain pulley. Don't wait too long before fixing that!

2002 corolla (now 91000 miles) makes rattling sound

Thats good that you are getting a second opinion. A Toyota dealer will be able to check it and see what the noise may be. See what they come up with. I dont think a worn timing chain or guides would cause a low oil pressure problem. But, if it does indeed have low oil pressure, that is a serious problem.

Jaguar X-Type cam belt

These are chain driven. The only issue I have seen with these are the chain tensioners breaking. Generaly with chain driven engines, the chain will last the life of the vehicle, unless something like the tensioner or guide brakes. If it does break repairs can be fairly expensive.

2001 toyota solera, heard rattle, then a schwing noise, car died

how many miles? sounds like you may have broken a timing belt or chain, not sure which you have. if this is the case and it is an interference engine, you probably have done valve damage by cranking it. try removing the oil fill cap and see if you can see moving parts inside while an assistant cranks the engine. if you see the camshaft moving, the timing belt/chain is ok and you have other problems, if the camshaft is not moving, you have found your problem. if there are any loud noises while cranking stop immediatley.

Timing chain - windows

Timing chains generally last a long time. Depending on what motor you have in that vehicle, it might have a timing belt in it, and if this is the case, the factory recommended replacement is every 100,000 or so miles, I personally reccommend replacing timing belts every 70-80,000 miles, this way there is less a risk from throwing it.
