I have a 98 mercury tracer 2.0 engine stall and die at the stop ligth and sometimes does everywere but start fast and have a stored code 1460 if you guy can help thank you

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

does the engine sound funny like turning over fast if it is the timing belt might have broke otherwise it could be the ignition module!

You can in most cases repair this slow speed stall or unstable idle by cleaning the engine throttle valve and the idle speed control valve using a product called CRC Spray Throttle valve cleaner. Spray the cleaner into the air intake of the engine with the hose removed from the throttle body, the engine will try to stall so hold up the idle speed manually. Once you have used up about 1/2 can of the cleaner stall the engine out while spraying and turn the key off, disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and then reconnect and drive the car for a about 25 miles of varied driving modes. If this doesn't cure the problem you may need the fuel injectors professionally cleaned by the dealer service dept.

Is the check engine light on? I would take it to an auto parts store and have any codes read. It sounds like a possible problem with the throttle position sensor. It is located under hood, center, upper engine area, rear of valve cover, mounted on driver side of throttle valve assembly. Good luck and hope this helps.

Could be either the ignition coil or an injector problem whereby the latter could be caused by impending failure of the on-board computer.
Check with any chain parts store in your area by phone and ask if they offer a free code check for your car.
Even without a check engine light, you may have a code (or more) stored in the ECU. 

U can go to any autozone, kragen or other chain auto parts stores and they will run the trouble code test for free, let me know what they find if anything, this also may be a fuel pressure problem
