Wiring problems trailer lights won't work on when hooked to van, but will work with other truck. lights were working not long ago on van, any ideas

some van don t have a ground wire. hook up to trailer put jumper cables to frame of trailer and van if works install a ground wire plug

green wire right turn, yellow wire left turn, brown wire marker and white wire ground. make sure you have a good ground. Wires on the van should be same color. Check van plug for working connector with test light. The ground is the most common problem, providing all connections are correct.

The trailer lights on your van should be fused independently of the vehicle lights if you have the factory wiring. There is a fuse junction block under the hood [should be in the left corner somewhere] and in that you should find the fuses for the trailer lights and other functions. This is from memory but check fuses #5 and #6, [10 amps fuses] and see if they are blown. I could be wrong on the numbers so you might have to check them all. Usually its the trailer that causes these fuses to blow so if you find a blown fuse replace it and make sure it doesn't blow again by testing all the lights with the trailer unhooked. If that's ok then hook up the trailer and check again. If it blows with the trailer hooked up then you probably have a short circuit in the trailer wiring somewhere. Good luck, hope this helps!

is the trailer attached to the ball on the van?? could be a ground problem,,run a jumper from hitch to trailer see if that works,,

yes it sounds like the converter is no good,the converters purpose is, when you have a trailer it uses the brake and signal on the same bulb, so if you were to step on the brake and have the left signal on, then the left brake light would turn into the signal,on your truck it has sperate lights for signal and brake, the converter converts this into one light for the trailer, so just replace the converter and everything should work fine, hope this helps.

Take a 12 volt test light... the kind that has a spring loaded clip to hold the probe into the wire, and insert it into the wire just before the trailer plug, vehicle side. (Blue I think) If there is a connection, the brake should see it and you should have an indicator light. When you activate the brake the test light should lite up. If not, move up to the brake actuator and test the blue wire. If there is nothing at the actuator, check the black wire. It is power to the controller. If no power there, check fuses again. If it does pick it up at the plug, connect the trailer and test the trailer itself. First ground to the trailer and then to the truck. Most problems are ground wire related. Then move to the axle and test it there. For the brakes to work, and even show on the indicator, there has to be a ground and power to the brakes themselves. There are 2 wires to each brake... a ground and a power. Test across both wires to make sure you have power and ground. You can also hook another trailer to your truck or another truck to your trailer. Lights can work through trailer ball ground. Brakes can't. leave the trailer unhooked from the trailer and hook the wiring up and test the lights. That usually will indicate a good or faulty ground. Then the problem is either with your trailer plug in, or the plug in on the truck. Use a test light to figure out which it is.

You might have cut a wire or it could have broken or disconnected. Try tracing the wiring where you hooked up the trailer you may find one broken or disconnected.
