If you remove the 6x 12mm bolts from the diff to remove the shaft, then remove the IFfitted free wheeling hub 6 cap screws, C clip, take wieght of 4x4 onn the lower con trol arm and remove the 4 12 bolts that hold the top ball joint the shaft will now come out.

at the diff end of shaft is a cap aprox 60-70mm diam, remove it best way is to gently slide the shaft in to the joint and it will pop the cap out. remove the C clip on the shaft, loosen the bands on the boot tap shaft off the joint remove the boot.

remove the bands on the outer joint , remove the boot or whats left of it. wipe out the old grease, repack with the special grease supplied with the boot kit try and get down in the joint swivel it at the same time.fit the new boot and bands.
revese order to finnish off. When doing the inner boot slide the CV joint in the middle of the travel then tighten the bands if you dont do this you can pop the boot as the pressure builds up as the shaft goes in...if the inner boot is ok have a good look replace the grease as well OEM boots ar the best aftermarket ones dont last long, in Australia that is.

tighten the 6 bolts on the diff realy tight pref use lock tight they can work loose.

you can do this in about 1.5 hours.......any problems let me know.done this heaps of time......

If you are trying to replace just the boot i will recomend you to buy a two piece boot than will be instaled with many little bolts and cut the old one with a nife, because it is kind of hard to replace with one piece boot, you have to hammered the end until come out, and to do that you have to complete remove the axel from car, or also just replace the whole axel and save time.

What are the symptoms of a bad CV joint on an all wheel drive Volvo

if your cv joint is going bad check the rubber boot located on your front axel if there is a tear in the boot once dirt gets inside the boot depending on how long youve had the noise the cv joint will have to be replaced sometimes the first signs are a clicking noise when turning coming from the cv joint if you catch it early you may get away with just replacing the boot there are two ways of doing this depending on the vehical one is to buy split boot it wraps around the axel and is held together with tiny bolts and nuts the axel doesant have to be removed useing this type you still have to remove the damaged boot and clean the cv joint thoroughly i suggest useing brake parts cleaner be carefull not to get it on any rubber parts or lines then before installing the new boot pack the joint with grease and the boot the other way the old joint must be removed you will have to remove the complete axel assemble the new joint and axel will come as one unit depending on the vehical your balljoint or joints may have to be removed also this method to me is the prefferd way this will assure all is new its more involved but better in the long run

Need to replace the cv joint boot on a 2000 buick century (outside)

First i think you should replace the cv axle instead of trying to just replace the boot, if the grease leaked out and dirt got into the joint then the joint is bad in soon you will hear noise or joint will let go. the time it take to replace the boot and the cost of the bbot i would replace the axle, you can buy a rebuilt axle for 45.00 with the exchange of the old one. heres directions to replace the boot. remove the wheel then remove the brake caliper and bracket, tie this of to side. take brake rotor off it should slide off, you may need to tap to break it free.next is to remove the center axle nut, after that you will remove the lower balljoint nut and split lower control arm from spindle, you may need a pry bar to sperate the control arm from the spindle, pull spindle out and slide axle out of the spindle.to replace the boot cut the inner and outter boot clamps, slide boot back and look inside for a clip., some use clip inside and some outside, look at shaft going into joint, see if theres a clip to open to slide cv joint out. if theres no clip then its an internal lock clip and what you need to do is hood the shaft and bang joint off shaft, you will need some help, hold the saft or use a pry bar and slide it into the rear of the inside joint between the back of the joint and the trany and give it a tug the joint will pop out of the trany this is a lot easier to work on off the car, put it in a vise, loock the shaft in vise to keep it from moving then hold outter joint straight and hit joint with hammer a few times and it will slide off, to install tap back on to lock it back on the shaft. with joint off remove old boot and clean shaft, insall new boot with clamp first then install outter clamp, install joint and grease, put grease into joint and the rest into the boot, make sure to clean the joint before installing it, after the install place the boot on the joint and clamp both clamps, install the axle, hope this helps, good luck.

How do i remove a front axel on 1999 s10 chevy pickup truck? I have all the outter stuff removed just need help removing the inner part tranmissionn side.

You have to remove the differential cover by removing the bolts, draining the fluid then you have to turn the wheels so you bring the opening of the carrier inside to face you. then you have to remove the big pin that goes through the middle by removing the locking bolt then pushing the pin out. Once the pin is removed you push the axle in then remove the C clip from the end of the axle in the Diff case and then you can pull the axle out. Sounds complicated but it is really easy an amatuer can do this very easily.

How to replace an inner tie rod end on a 2001 s600 mercedes benz

I will enclose some pictures to also help you, First remove the wheel on the side of the bad inner tierod, make sure a jack stand is used under the frame for safety. With the wheel off you will next loosen the nut at the rear of the outter tie rod, just a few turns is good, theres a nut that holds the outter rod to the spindle you will need to remove the cotter pin first is it has a locking nut then there will be no cotter pin, remove the nut and seperate the tierod from spindle, this is done with a fork or hitting the side of spindle with a hammer, with that off you will untwist the outter rod, count the turn so it will be close until you have an alignment. with end off next remove the nut that you loosened that locked the outter rod. Remove the clip clamp on the boot and also remove the inner clamp and slide boot off, turn wheel so the inner rod on the side you are working on comes out all the way, next is to remove the inner rod by unscrewing it, if you look you will see a washer that bends over the end to lock it, use a chisel or screw driver to bend ends out of the way then use a wrench to remove the inner tie rod, the new one is ready to install, use locktight on the thread off the new inner tie rod to lock it and also bend washer ends back over to also help lock it, then reverse directions to finish the job. then you will need an ailgnment, hope this is helpful.johnjohn2_66.jpgjohnjohn2_67.jpgjohnjohn2_68.jpg

I have a 2003 toyota highlander with a failed cv joint. I want to change the whole axle, but i cannot get the axle out of the transaxle.

Okay after you get the outter part of axel free with rotor off and everything ,,,you have to get a small pry bar or flat screw driver what ever works and pry the small hub right after the boot there should be a small space where you can fit the pry bar between the hub on axel and trans houseing and pry it out Im doing a hyundai right now and looking for that just right space to do the same thing,,also when inserting the new axel it will push right in and you will hear the click when in all the way, if you cant get it send me a pic of the axel inserted into trans,,,,,,,,thunderz@live.com Ill help you get it out.

you don't have to remove the whole axle just the hub assembly this is held on by 4 bolts. remove wheel. then remove drum/ or rotor remove all the brake hardware. remove outer dust cap to bearings remove center nut and remove outter bearing. remove the hub this will give you plenty of room to remove the broken bolt. please rate this
