Hello, I'm having some difficulty trying to replace the license plate lights on my Le Sabre. I tried removing the screws that hold the retaining trim around the lenses for the mentioned lights but am having no luck. I backed the screws out as far as I could but the retaining trim will not move and the whole assembly stays put. I sure don't want to force anything at todays prices for auto parts. Also there isn't an easy access hole under the truck lid to remove these bulbs. What gives? Thanks for listening, Gary

You should have a trunk lock cylinder in the trunk lid. Look to the right side of the license l plate by the license plate light and you will see a black plastic cover. Remove the cover to expose the lock cylinder then use your key.
your going to remove the entire trunk lid assembly from the vehicle. If you open the trunk and look from the inside you should either see black plastic wing nuts or 10mm nuts holding the assembly to the trunk. There will be approximately 10 of them that will need to be removed. Once they are removed the lens assembly will pop away from the trunk lid. The license bulbs can then be replaced. I usually replace all six taillight/license bulbs whenever I have one of these apart. Its the same bulb for all six lights.
raise trunk lid look on the inside behind your license plate light there should be access to the bulb there. You will see the wires going in to the bulb there will either be a flt plate that can be removed to access bulb or where the wires enter there will be a round socket that you can twist counter clockwise and remove the bulb socket for bulb replacement.
hope this helps.
YOU HAVE TO OPEN THE TRUNK LID REMOVE THE BLACK PLASTIC COVER FOR THE TRUNK LID LATCH.REMOVE THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT HOUSING FROM THE TRUNK LID.REMOVE THE BULB SOCKET FROM THE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT HOUSING.TO REMOVE BULB FROM THE SOCKET SIMPLY PULL IT STRAIGHT OUT OF THE SOCKET.
I have a 2002 which is a little different body style but it may be the same process. You have to take the back plastic section that holds the license plate loose from the car. There are bolts that are inside the trunk that hold the plastic panel on. Mine are in the trunk lid. If your plastic panel, license plate, etc. goes up with the trunk lid they are in the lid. You need deep type sockets to reach the nuts, at least mine does.
